These are not necessary for you to live. Food is - whether vegetable, mineral, or animal - it is your responsibility to provide sustenance for your body, which ultimately means hunting or growing and killing your food. You can subcontract that task out for efficiency or squeamishness, but that doesnt absolve you of your ultimate responsibility.
