Teach me how to cook without sodium. I have to learn for health reasons. What seasonings should I use?

>> No.11852824

sodium hexametaphosphate to emulsify ur sauces (including cheese sauce).

use sodium, just use less of it

Find other ways, we literally crave salt to the point where we evolved enjoy food more with its presence

I had to cut back drastically too because blood pressure was nearly 200.
No sodium is impossible, and your cooking will taste like shit. Get on a fuckton of medication to control it, then the key is to consume fairly well measured doses of sodium in equal intervals. No gaps in sodium intake, also no spikes.
Think about it like the balance between insulin and sugar for a diabetic.

Just made this not to long ago, I'd recommend going 2x the seasoning this person recommends though, got kidney disease so salt intake control is a must for me, honestly a little salt is fine, you really just need to watch what your cooking with, reading labels & such is a must.

I'm 100% certain you don't understand what your doctor told you to do.
Human beings die without sodium.
Here's some tips to avoid excess sodium.
>no frozen dinners/freezer snacks
>no instant noodles, hamburger helper, potato flakes
>no canned soup
>no potato chips or crackers
>no fast food or pizza delivery
Basically any convenience food is loaded with salt to offset the flavor of preservatives and the loss of flavor from being dried and otherwise processed. Avoid processed foods to avoid excess sodium.
If you have a daily recommended limit of sodium from your doctor, you can easily limit salt when cooking.
>2,000mg = 1 tsp
>1 meal = 1/3 tsp salt = ~650mg sodium
>1 cup cheese in mac = 700mg sodium
So if your 1 cup of cheese makes 2 servings of mac, that's about ~350mg sodium per bowl, so you could add just over 1/8 tsp of salt per bowl to be on track.

>>11852847
>I'd recommend going 2x the seasoning this person recommends though
That's because you can't taste the full potential of seasoning without salt. Salt is what makes spice delicious. Spice without salt is just weird flavored sawdust.

Eat more potassium and avoid fast food, anything canned, anything that comes in a box, and use sauces/dressings very lightly. Sneaky amount of sodium in sauces

pic related - if you think 25mg is a lot of sodium I got bad news for you

just don't add a fuckton of salt and you'll be fine. Also 1 tsp = 2300 mg sodium not 2000

If you're on blood pressure medications don't do this. Some ace inhibitors/ARB's and aldosterone blockers can cause hyperkalemia due to changes in diet.

1. Cook your own food
2. Add less salt
3. ????
4. Profit.

Meming aside. A lot of food needs salt to taste good.Even cookies need salt. Just watch your salt intake, if you're just cooking regular meals you usually won't go over the limit. Avoid junk foods like chips from the store.

Eating low sodium is just as bad as too much. Add potassium to your diet and avoid chips or other processed foods. Youd be surprised how much salt you can add to your own cooking and still be far lower than processed food amounts.

I cut salt in half in my iet last year, and pretty stopped eating sugar I have three tips for you

>pepper, lots of pepper
I love spicy food, so for it made easier for me to eat food with less salt if I used hot peppers, chilly peppers, jalapenos. If you can get your hands on some brazilian beak chili pepper I'm sure you will love cooking with it

>butter, oil andd grease in general
I don't mind running a few more minutes, so the extra calories I get from cooking with a little bit of butter is not a problem, if that's your case go for it

>patience
Processed food ruined our tasting buds, many people can't taste subtle flavor anymore, so they grow addicted to the overly salty and sugary food they have, but it is reversible, if you stick to a low salt and low sugar diet wih time you will grow found of it as you gain the ability to feel taste normally again, trust me, it feels great.

I'd be prepared to cut out many things from my diet if it were necessary for good health, such as meat, saturated fat or sugar. You can always work around those and still make good food. But there is no good cooking without salt, or even with low salt. There is no substitute that works. I'd rather just keep eating salt and die early.

No seasoning replaces salt. You have my condolences. Consume more potassium, drink more water, and I hope you can have sodium again one day. In the meantime focus more on savory flavors and on more satiating food. Savory is your next best bet after saltiness and the more satiating your food is the longer you can go without food i.e. you won't miss salt as often.

No, you don't. Sodium is healthy. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar or a fool.

I've always eaten a shit ton of sodium and I'm a normal weight, my blood pressure is fine and my blood work all came back alright when I got a new doctor a few months ago.

Serious question, but what makes people able to process and handle certain things better than others people? It has to be more than just genetic.
