This is the best reason to have it. Its the best canned meat that lasts forever. Bring it camping when refrigeration is not an option.
Its somewhat expensive. It works out to be about $5/pound which is a LOT for a blend of pork shoulder and ham. Pork shoulder and ham both should cost about 1/4 of that price, but canned convenience is sometimes nice.

I cube potatoes and spam and pan fry them. I'll do the potatoes first for a while so they crisp on the outside and fluff cook on the inside, then throw the spam in to get some crisp on them and let them cook together. Sometimes I'll add hatch fire roasted, peeled cut green chile. Sometimes I'll add scrambled egg, onion and bell pepper all mixed. Fuckin a I wish they had green chile when I drove through hatch.

One time when I was a young idiot, I was making my way from outside Albuquerque to Tucson while drinking and stopped in Hatch ar Gillie's chile shop. I made friends with one of the (surely illegal) employees who was setting the red chile out on the roof to dry and helped him set them out. Twas nice.

By that reasoning, barely any recipe is an invention, as it would require the inventor to think up at least one ingredient that has never been used before. I never heard of anyone making the recipe before I did, so unless I stumble upon someone who did, it's my invention. It's not like I get rich off it anyways, it's just an easy yet enjoyable meal.
