Just turned 21. What's some good, but cheap booze to start with? I have almost no experience with non-garbage tier alcohol.

Dude, just 2 beers. I get mine fronted to me by Asian Andy down the block at my local Asian store. Make friends with a licalshop keeper and you can get your 2 beers if you're short on cash and you'll be cherry all night with those 2. Don't listen to the alcoholics here.

> 2 beers
Ok lightweight

No really op to start id get either a pack of rtds (mixed drinks, typically can taste much less alcohol so quite enjoyable) or a bottle of Jack if you want something a bit more real and build up your tolerance

Beer and other light drinks are always a good place to start, but microbrew stuff will drive you mad trying to research it before buying.
Go to a place with a decent beer stock and pick up a couple 6-packs of macrobrews for cheap to start. I like Miller High Life, Shocktop, and Blue Moon Belgian Ale. A big step in my experience was getting over your expectations of how beer tastes. At first it was all shit, but you'll develop a taste for what you like and don't.
If you have money to burn, try some craft beers next. Pick out a few that catch your eye, but are spread across the "genres." An IPA, stout, and sour are all vastly different tastes, and have loads of variety within each type. Some places let you make your own variety packs of single bottles for a set price, which are really great ways to experiment without committing.
Try a hard cider as well. They are a bit more alcoholic than regular beer, around 8%. Look for something that looks like its produced in small batches, rather than big ones like Angry Orchard or Strongbow. They tend to preserve the apple taste better, and taste less like apple-flavored beer imo.
As far as straight liquor goes hopefully another anon will respond with some suggestions. For mixed drinks beyond rum and coke, just google stuff and see what looks good. Anything with Blue Curacao is good in my book, particular a Blue Lagoon. Reasonable liquors for cocktails sit around $20-$30 for a 750mL bottle. The brand names are as good a place to start as any: Captain Morgan rum, Malibu coconut rum, Absolut vodka, etc. Swing towards the $30 end for whiskey/scotch/bourbon.

Grants or famous grouse blended for scotch whiskey, go for Jamersons or Tulamore dew for Irish whiskeys
I have little experience in bourbon so I'm not much help there
>gin
something cheap but not bottom shelve, beef eater or Larious 12
>Rum
not much help here though mt. gay is a good option in my opinion.
>vodka
something that doesn't come in a plastic jug should be good enough
>tequila
El jimadore or olmeca are fine

When drinking spirits for the first time you are going to hate them but if you can work your way up by repeatedly trying a certain spirt you'll fine you love it eventually

Second. Pick a liquor, pick a mixer. Enjoy. I'll add that whiskey and coke also works well. As a bonus, when you mix it, you can go cheap!

I've taken to 'Benchmark 8' bourbon at $9.99 a fifth, and mixing with ginger ale or ginger beer and lime. Kentucky mule on the cheap. Except I became a lime snob and only use fresh.. fuckin' women...

It really depends on what you're interested in trying, OP. A lot of people I know tended to start off with mixed drinks like screwdrivers and rum-n-cokes then eventually grew into drinking things neat (i.e. not mixed with anything).

Price isn’t everything when it comes to liquor man. Pic related is pretty decent bourbon for its price. Jim beam ain’t bad either but if you don’t mind spending little extra buffalo trace is a really good with buillet being my favorite. Tho if your mixing it don’t bother you’re just wasting your money. As for vodka svedka is pretty good for its price, I prefer the 100 proof

Also jack Daniels can absolutely fuck off, it’s disgusting. Irish whiskey is also incredibly over rated, tulemore du is pretty decent

Bulliet is quality cost effective Bourbon that won't kill you the first time you drink it. Angels envy is interesting as well, but not representative of bourbon as a whole.

A normal ass beer would also be enjoyable. Just be sure that if you get a clear bottle like Corona, that you don't let UV light skunk the beer.
