OK, I'm going to dispense with politics for a minute and be totally objective.

There is a lot of really comfy bong food, their big breakfasts, roast beef dinners, etc, and fish and chips is totally on point.
the real issue is in creativity, all their best dishes are pretty much obvious and uncomplicated. a big English breakfast is just good because its a lot of courses, but they are all pretty much prepared about as ordinarily as possible, roast beef is just... roast beef, with some salt and herbs sprinkled on top, fish and chips is just deep fried fish.
when they do try and get creative we end up with chip butty's. admittedly I would never think to try making a chip butty, but that doesn't make it any good.
bongs have some good food but none of it is anything that the rest of the world wouldn't have eventually come up with on their own.

oh, I will also give them that their pastry game is pretty good, not the best, but good.

British food such as sandwiches, carbonated drinks and chocolate bars are everywhere, people make their own variations and think of them as native, but they were all created in Britain. Americans consider Apple Pie and Cheddar Cheese to be theirs but these are also British foods that they have adopted.
People legitimately claim that Britain has no culture, while speaking English, wearing suits based on British clothing and protected by a legal system based on British law.
