Do any of you guys have a go-to for really simple meals that impress people? Something that tastes and looks really fucking good but doesn't require years of culinary school, I mean.
Also is culinary school a complete joke? I'd assume it is.

My go-to for a Thanksgiving side dish during family gatherings.

Ingredients:
Red apple
Potato
Bacon

>Dice apple
>Dice potato
>Fry bacon on pan on stove
>Fry potato and apple dices in bacon grease
>Crumble bacon into bacon bits and add to fried apple and potato
>Make up a bullshit story about starving pioneers in the California gold rush finding a pig and an apple tree in the wild and combining it with their last potato

>take chicken thighs with skin on
>rub a little salt under the skin and whatever rub you want on top
>place on that oven pan with slits
>cook 375 ~30 minutes
>broil at end to blacken skin and make it ultra-crispy
You can't go wrong with this shit. The easiest, tastiest, and most impressive go-to meal I have. Pic related, they end up like this but somehow way better

Salads are your best bet.

Get a speed peeler. Make ribbons of carrot and cucumber and put them in circles on the outside of the plate. Fill the middle with some spinach leaves. Then chop up some Romaine lettuce and scatter it over the spinach. Do the same to some red bell pepper and avocado. Sprinkle over some chopped walnuts and feta cheese. Drizzle olive oil and lemon juice over everything. Salt and pepper that bad boy and you're done.

Fancy looking salad in 10 minutes.

This recipe sounds godly, the story rings dad-tier but it really warms my heart. Reminds me of this:
>fry bacon
>fry cabbage and onion in bacon grease
>crumble bacon, add it back
>add spiral/egg noodles and toss it all together
It sounds simple but it's insanely fucking awesome. Nice thread op!
