Not the best link, but you do realize black coffee can stain and I think fuck up your enamel coating. I normally add a smidge of half&half, but this coffee or so acidic it curdles a bit, so I'm just drinking it black. Pic related is the coffee.

Well if you want espresso style try a moka pot. There pretty easy to use.

To make sure it doesn't come out bitter put in boiling water in the base. If it's still too bitter when you see the water coming into the top stop it 3/4s way through buy removing it from the stove and running cool water on the base from the sink. You can drink the brew straight, though it can be a little strong so adding water can help. You could also try French press if you want ultimate control, or pour over for bright coffee.

Take the coat hanger and bend it so that you have a circle for holding the sock, and the rest acts like a stand that you can bend around the base of your mug, then put the grounds in the sock and pour water over it. Wa la.

>> No.12140950

I used to be exclusively moka pot for over a decade. It definitely is great for espresso and other dark beans. But it's also sort of a pain to clean and as mentioned you have to be careful to avoid bitterness (which is necessary in varying degrees with all methods). I like cheap and simple French press these days. I pull the water from the stove when large bubbles are almost about to boil and after the four minute steep you can drink immediately. Also is great for a variety of beans, from breakfast blend to dark French and Italian roasts. I work at Kroger and have tried nearly all the Private Selection whole beans with good results. Never bitter unless I ignore the water and it gets to boiling.

I got some finely ground dollar store coffee and just regular coffeemate vanilla creamer. I'm a simple Anon with simple tastes.

I will say though, sometimes the dollar store luck's out in what they get in. Usually I get that Don Fransisco's Butterscotch Toffee just because it smells so fucking good, but once in a while they will have some fancy block espresso or bag of a flavour that didn't sell well in a bigger brand.

This time it was these. Pretty good honestly.

Allegedly higher quality, but likely due to the fact that they have to be hand sorted from the regular beans due to their different shape, meaning they roast slightly different. There is not a noticeable quality difference outside the fact that defects are picked out more during hand sorting. A peaberry is just a single bean inside the Cherry instead of the normal two.

I used to drink French press, I have tried my friends ridiculous espresso machines, pour over is just too much to do several times a day. I load up my freshly ground beans in my drip machine and guess what... it tastes fuckin great. Use a metal filter and a decent drip machine and you really can't beat the convenience of carrying around a giant vaccuum flask filled with piping hot coffee you brewed for a few nickels at home.

I went with the Peruvian for now

- french press
- 3-4 scoops, enough for a BIG mug
- 5+ mins
- a fuckton (like hundreds of calories worth) of double (heavy) cream

Was good, dark/roasty/bodyful enough that it still had a strong coffee taste even after all that fatty fat fat. With light/medim roasts I just can't get that, the coffee gets completely lost.

I just wanted to check them out.
The Peruvian was good but still only as good as (or maybe even slightly inferior) to my usual which is this mofo from Aldi

It's not loud and over quickly, plus no matter what you use a grinder will come in handy and think of it this way, what if you want cold brew one day, French press the next, and drip pot the following day? I'm not sure what you use but getting a grinder gets you the most out of your bag by letting you pick how it's ground and to adjust the coarseness if your brew is coming out bitter or sour. You're in a coffee thread so I can only assume you're interested in learning a little from those of us who have done the autistic research.

I have been thinking about this coffee donut shop that is probably an hour away from me in a hick town. It's kinda an interesting little place.

The place is the epitome of knock off. The signage is a parody off Dunkin donuts right down to the font and coloring. Inside they have more knock off shit and sell some old random anime stuff. The donuts are some of the best I have ever had, and come out fresh often. That even sell monster size ones that are almost as big as a plate. They also sell breakfast sandwiches and subs. Place was cozy.

I'm not that versed in coffee, and the coffee there isn't exactly the highest grade, but there was something nice about it that makes me think it's the quintessential donut shop coffee. It isn't a light roast, but isn't some over burnt dark roast either. It's not bitter, but has a robust warm flavor that takes to milk or cream well. It also doesn't have that acidic or winey flavor either. Don't know why I have been thinking about it, but I'm kinda craving it; also my fat ass probably wants a donut.

Anyone else have or been to a donut or coffee shop that isn't some expensive hipster or branded place? A place that is cozy and nice?

Coffee has been coopted by indulgent hedonists perverting the very experience with their desire for pleasure. It is not a drink of comfort, but one which you should suffer through, bitter and burnt out as a parallel to the state of the worker. It is meant to be an experience akin to excoriation, a sort of release brought upon by self inflicted pain. It should be taken scalding and black, tasting of ash. Bleak and flavorless, it should give you only mechanistic drive to finish your job and crash after you clock out. "Comfort" is a hipster appropriation, wanting to savor sweetness because they do not know what it is like to struggle, but only what it is like to enjoy the fruits of others' labor.

If I buy coffee I get a cappuccino or latte; something I can't make at home. $5 though for coffee that is essentially left to sit in a jar overnight is too much for me even if it's good quality coffee. There are definitely places that are charging more than they're worth but I have payed $7 for a pourover of a rare varietal and it was worth every penny, but I guess that's just because I really love it and treat it like a luxury every once in a while. Nothing wrong with buying a cheap cup just like there's nothing wrong with grabbing a mcchicken every once in a while. Some people seem to have the mentality that all coffee should be priced like fast food and never more than that or else it's a ripoff.
