How is it so popular? They charge for basic condiments like ketchup. Their meat is tasteless. I get it, it's cheap and service is fast. I'd still rather pay a few extra bucks at five guys.

It's cheap, within walking distance from a lot of popular areas, and open until 2 AM. Any time I'm drunk in Seattle, or after a concert, I stop and get a couple burgers there because it's always like 1 AM and I have to walk somewhere because I'm drunk. It's because Seattle has no food taste at all and Dicks is a prime example of that fact. It has no foods it does well, foods from other regions are massacres. Pizza is tasteless, fish is extremely overpriced for where it's located, you cant find a burger that isn't $22 that someone hasn't put their meth needle hands all over, tacos are mediocre, $3.50 bahn-mi is sketchy and diarrhea giving. If you want an avocado toast or quinoa power bowl cranberry chopped tossed salad with wil mixed greens stolen directly from a p-patch, Seattle has you covered.

Oh I went to add a ball and ballroom. They were fine. Another barcade was having one of their contests so the place was packed. If I was on a machine that was part of the event people were real polite about it. Let me finish my game. It reminded me of Logan Arcade, but they all had mediocre beer lists. Pretty good mixed drink options. I've been spoiled with the beer options at bars in Chicago. Seattle seemed to follow the california model where you had to visit tap rooms to get good beer. Upper Midwest on the other hand had good beer at gas stations and shitty little liquor stores. Different distribution pipelines I guess.

If you're ever in chicago hit up Logan Square and try Kuma's burgers and Logan Arcade. Get some fried amish chicken at Parson's. The town isn't as fun to walk around like the hilly areas of Seattle and San Fran since it's old flat swamp land but the business is good. I'm still fucking pissed that the excellent bar with 100 beers across the street from Logan Arcade closed.

In Washington my experience of everyone else included wholesome old people and math and/or heroin addicts. It was an interesting experience. They're friendly, but trying meth the first time in Forks was pretty weird. Traveling the state was a weird mix of drug addicts, hiking, and Seattle. From an east to west direction.

You've never car camped around a place before? It's an excellent way to meet people and explore an area. I'm a geologist. I work most of the year to take a month off and visit an area, exploring geologically rich areas. I did Washington 3 years back. I'll meet people and stay there the night before I move on. In between I camp. Washington was great because I could consistently find people to stay with or a park to camp in. Just so happened to meet a meth head couple in Forks. They were very welcoming, but also weirdly religious in a paranoid palladian way. It was fun, but weird. They weren't any where near the only drug addicts I met on my long haul driving across the state.

Story short I pulled into Spokane. Relatively large town after driving for days. Idaho is fairly boring if it weren't for the gorgeous Karst topography. Beautiful mountains and caves, average to bleh food and beer.

Anyway, Spokane was my first stop in Washington. I stopped off and found a cheap hotel. The bar was basically like I was in Urbana Champaign Illinois. I got a few drinks, went out for a smoke with my vape and met some people in the smoking. They asked about my vape and soon enough we were drinking together. The town is surprisingly popping. Three youngish women there and I ended up partying with them all night.

For context, I am a woman. These ladies wanted to show me Spokane. We hit up a couple bars and at the third one they brought out "coke" that i'm 90% sure was meth. These ladies were like 30 something and i'm 26 so they were acting like it was totally normal. These ladies were buying me drinks n shit so I couldn't exactly pull away easy, and I was curious. I know what coke feels like, but this shit felt more like super juiced adderall. The only exciting thing that happened was we went to one girl's apartment and her boyfriend was there. They were cutting up powders and generally being cool. They wanted me to tell stories about spelunking and climbing. I had some lsd on me that I was saving for camping that they wanted to buy but I didn't let them.

One dude was tweaked out whispering to himself and I know that shit. So I talked him down to drinking some juice and breathing deep even though I don't know these people.

Seattle unsurpsingly has a well developed vegetarian/vegan community of restaurants. My go to for a quick and comfy meal is Veggie Grill. Mighty-O Donuts makes a bunch of pretty good vegan donuts/desserts. Sweetgrass Food has amazing salads, juices, and vegan friendly brunches. There are also numerous Indian/East Asian vegetarian restaurants if you like that kind of food. Floret has some amazing veggie burgers, shepards pies, etc, mostly filling, savory meals.
