I don't really do drugs or even drink that much but it was surprising how many people actually did in the kitchen. The work can suck for sure but I have never felt the need to do anything. I don't even drink coffee to stay awake and I sleep poorly. I have always just endured.

I work at Rehab Burger Therapy on 2nd St. in Scottsdale, Arizona and to be completely honest the kitchen is basically a crack den. When I first applied I thought that the name was just an edgy gimmick but now I realize it's because the owner is a total junkie. Most of the staff are too and its not uncommon to see one or more of us slumped over on the floor unconscious in the BOH. Just last month I saw our chef drop a syringe that was dangling from his arm into the chili pot in a complete stupor. I sifted it out with a ladle and washed it off to put back into the communal syringe box.
The guy who used to work as a dishwasher got burned really bad when he passed out while standing up and fell face first into the boiling onion ring oil.
The owner paid him under the table with heroin to not put in an insurance claim for an accident at work.
I have to admit that I've done a lot of hard drugs in the few years i've worked there and I am not proud of it. I blacked out in the freezer after eating part of a fentanyl patch and when I came to I couldn't feel my extremities or move. The kitchen staff dragged me out and poured hot water on me while I frantically undressed from the delirium that hypothermia brought about.
It was scary but that's not the first time I passed out in the freezer. The first time was when I smoked salvia while I was already high on ketamine.

Is it true working as a cook in the kitchen is one of the most stressful jobs on the planet which is the reason why lot's of restaurant workers smoke/drink/do drugs more than your average people?
