That's bullshit. Minimum wage isn't the same thing as a living wage.

Minimum wage is the price for absolutely unskilled labor that literally anybody can do. It's what you pay kids just starting out in the workforce. If your job is really how you make your living, then presumably you've got some skills that differentiate you from the masses and make you worth more than minimum. If you're trying to feed a family on minimum wage, then you're the one who fucked up, not your employer. You should be worth more by now.

The minimum wage is already artificially high. Unskilled labor is so fungible that it's worth nearly zero dollars. By raising the price of unskilled labor, we reduce the demand for it, meaning fewer minimum-wage jobs. Employers will find some other way to get the work done, or just not do it. We already have far fewer minimum-wage jobs than the work force could fill, because the existing minimum wage is several dollars higher than the value of the work. Raising the minimum wage would certainly put more dollars in the pockets of the teenagers and the (somehow) unskilled people still doing those jobs, but it would also mean fewer of those jobs to go around.

You really can't have both.
