It's all shit. The government outlaws preservatives that maintain flavour, the coastal water is filthy, and the soil is acidic and loamy. Crops AND the cattle that graze are nutrient poor. Everything tastes like shit down to the raw ingredients.

The only god-tier British food is baked goods with plenty of sugar and candies/sweets. The rest of the planet has a right to shit on British cuisine en masse.

Only some places in SoCal get water from Nevada and Arizona (because what are reservoirs), NorCal gets it's water from snow melt, and some of it gets delivered to the Central Valley through flumes and canals. Also no one is growing almonds or broccoli in the desert. The almond orchards are in the Central and Sacramento valleys, which are not even close to being deserts. It's really fucking obviously you've never traveled through California. From Bakersfield up highway 99 to about Lodi, you can drive past all the almond, walnut, pistachio, cherry, peach, plum, apricot, etc orchards, and there's signs on the fences that have the company name and sometimes what's growing. There's a shit ton of Blue Diamond orchards. And, if you go over to Intersate 5, (which runs parallel to 99) you can drive past miles and miles of orange, mandarin, lemon, satusma, etc orchards. And none of that area is fucking desert. You can also see the big corporation's processing facilities, like Del Monte, Kraft, etc. Straight from the farms to you. You're welcome.

Last time I was in London, scotch eggs with soft yolks were all the rage and I've no idea why. It's supposed to be something to eat on the go, I don't want yolk in my beard. It's just a way to justify charging twelve euros and serve it I some gastro pub. Gentrification ruins most things.

I have literally never had a Yorkshire pudding as good as hers since she died, and I've never ever been able to reproduce them. Weird because in general she was a pretty mediocre cook.

Despite popular belief, there is no record of the dish ever being made with toad.[8]

The origin of the name is unclear, but it may refer to the way toads wait for their prey in their burrows, making their heads visible in the earth, just like the sausages peep through the batter.[8] [12]

It may also derive from the "Antediluvian Toad", a phenomenon of live frogs or toads being found encased in stone, which was a scientific fad of the late 18th century.[13]

>The origin of the name is unclear, but it may refer to the way toads wait for their prey in their burrows, making their heads visible in the earth, just like the sausages peep through the batter.[8] [12] It may also derive from the "Antediluvian Toad", a phenomenon of live frogs or toads being found encased in stone, which was a scientific fad of the late 18th century.

The dish is so named because the cabbage makes bubbling and squeaking sounds during the cooking process.

They are the same thing. Cottage pie is some kind of meme that made the rounds in the late 90's because of the "Shepherd" part of the dish. Every old recipe book describing it with beef still called it Shepherd's pie that I've seen.
