No joke my wife was on American idol and got through. After she got accepted, they took her to some room and told her to tell a sad story for that little intro clip they play before the audition for the successful people. She didn't really have anything sad to tell so she just made up something about bullying and it was really shit. After that they just sent her home.

Having a sad story on tv is critical to your success.
