Is Gordon Ramsay actually a very good cook or is he just overhyped because he's a celebrity?

>> No.12894916

Is it true that he has a very long dick?

>> No.12894917

Hes over hyped.

>> No.12894940

both
he's good and could probably do better than 90% of the retards here but he's not like some culinary god

>> No.12895008

Hes a good cook but mostly for entertainment. Hes good at making difficult food. Your average joe could make a better burger than him with some practice.
He doesnt make food that you make at home really. Its just entertainment

I doubt anyone here has worked for him let alone been served his food directly so I doubt cu/ck/s can be adequate judges of his true prowess.

>> No.12895055

Professional cooking is nothing like home cooking. I bet there are people on this board that can make a home cooked meal and in a blind taste test it would tie with Ramsay's food.
A professional cook does similar things as a home cook, but for 100 guests, while keeping costs low and managing staff.

>> No.12895062

>>12895021
Why not? Steve Jobs built Apple and he was never a programmer. Ramsay could be the same, just having business skills and then hiring talent. But I think he does have skills.

>> No.12895070

He's excellent at cooking boomer food

>> No.12895080

>>12895062
The difference is as chef you are directly involved in menu creation, ingredient selection, and the cooking process, whereas Jobs was probably never directly involved in programming

>> No.12895111

>>12895080
Well it depends on the role that you take in the restaurant. I agree that the ebst way for a talented chef is not to blindly pump money into a business but take some responsibility, create some dishes, teach staff etc. but I don't have any hard proof that Ramsay did this.

I believe he did though, from bits and snippets that I saw I think he is a good chef, but it's good to keep that little bit of scepticism I think.

Ah and also his money and popularity came from his cooking at first afaik, but I think he didn't have any stars before he became a TV chef? So at that point he had the money to hire people if he wanted to.

Both. He's a great chef and has a real passion for cooking but this has led to him being overhyped by the media and casual diners as the greatest ever.

>> No.12895478

>>12894907
Years ago he was one of the best in the world.
Now he has become a caricature of himself.
However, I believe when the cameras are off and he is personally motivated he cooks for himself at his own pace and the dishes he turns out there would probably be incredible.

>> No.12895489

I don't think he's overhyped, he's an insanely good cook. He has a huge range of foods he can make at a high level from Chinese, Indian, Thai, British, Italian, French, even breads and pastries and desserts he can do it all. What falls short are his restaurant chains that he doesn't or barely manages, and that burger everyone memes.

>> No.12895507

Waay off. He got all the shows etc after his success in UKs restaurant science.

>> No.12895508

>>12895453
I know. But you do't have to be a good cook to hire good cooks. FC Chelsea is a good football club but Roman Abramowitsch is not a player or even a coach, he just pumped over a billion into the club. You can simply hire talent. Michelin Stars don't come directly from money, but I am 100% sure McDonalds could open a 3 Michelin Star restaurant if they invest enough in that one location. I am not saying it will serve McDonald's burgers, it will serve haute cuisine that the burger revenue will pay for.

I worked for 2 separate 3 stars in the early 2000s, both in Chicago. One on his way up.....the other on his way down. Working in those two places changed my life, made me realize how much "normal life" has to sacrificed to achieve that level of success.

>> No.12895535

But is it surprising? You can be old money and shit those things out like nothing, but then you also never gained anything, you just convert one asset into another.
Everyone wants to be successful, if a normal 9 to 5 did it, evbberyone would be rich. Which btw. is impossible, being rich means you have more money thjan others, not everyone can have more money than others.

From watching a lot of his more normal cooking videos where he's not playing things up for entertainment I do think he is a good cook but I think he's good in a very safe all around way which I also think is why people like him
He's the type of chef to take a classic tried and true dish and make it better than everybody else but not the type to challenge the food world with anything radically original

Gordon Ramsey is only popular because he acts like a dickhead.
