12993805 No.12993805 [Reply] [Original]

>Frog legs cuisine is also contested as an issue of animal rights, as the frog's legs are often removed without slaughtering the frogs first, at which point the still-living frogs are discarded.

>By French law, foie gras is defined as the liver of a duck or goose fattened by force-feeding corn with a feeding tube, a process also known as gavage. Ducks are force-fed twice a day for 12.5 days and geese three times a day for around 17 days.

>For centuries, a rite of passage for French gourmets was the eating of the Ortolan. These tiny birds—captured alive, force-fed, then drowned in Armagnac—were roasted whole and eaten that way, bones and all, while the diner draped his head with a linen napkin to preserve the precious aromas and, some believe, to hide from God.

Why is French Cuisine so cruel?

Fois gras is the only one I see much worse than typical animal killing for food. Even that isn't much worse than any factory farming.

I've had frogs legs a number of times, they're like slightly fishy chicken wings. Not that grand.

>>12993805
Okay at the risk of getting shat on by /ck/, I'm going to disagree with this post. Maybe the reason I'm disagreeing is because I'm retarded, but you'll have to read on to find out for sure.

The last time I harvested live frog from the wild I tried to kill it humanely. The first thing I tried to do was stick a knife into its skull in order to hit its brain and kill it outright. It was still moving (not in a nervous movement, but a deliberate movement). Then I tried a number of different ways, from going into the skull in different ways - I even tried poking into its eyeball. The thing would not die. I ended up torturing it trying to dispatch it humanely.

So finally I just cut off its legs and threw the top half into the fire. No doubt it died quicker than it would have if I had just tossed it there to begin with. I guess the average frog has the awareness of about a fish. From now on, for mercy's sake, I will saw off the legs from the torso and throw the top half into the fire quick and easy before torturing the poor animal.

Man what. As a kid I killed so many frogs using them as toys, and I may have been a bloodthirsty 4 year old but iirc they died for literally no reason. Not animals of strong constitution was my take away.

I didn't shoot the frog in question, I took him with a frog gig. Maybe .22 is the best way to go desu.

>> No.12994258

>>12994256
No, I mean they literally would just die in my hands even if I wasn’t rough.

>> No.12994279

>>12994258
The only ones I've had die prematurely are ones I have shot. The only one I took with a gig was determined to stay alive. Well anyway, getting back to the OP, in that case I wouldn't worry too much about discarding a live frog torso into the fire because that's a more humane way to dispatch them than the "more humane ways".

>>12994546
same with ducks. They aren't being "forced", they're so fucking stupid they willingly gorge themselves, the food tube is just to expedite the process.

Seriously the only commercial animal you should ever feel bad for are pigs and MAYBE cows. Chickens and fowl of all kinds are WAY more fucking dumb than you think, as are all types of lizard, fish, shellfish and amphibians.

Next time you get a frog you should do like crabs where you sever the connection of the brain to the rest of the body by cutting it off entirely. Alternatively discard the alive remains into boiling water. Fire, unless it's a furnace, takes longer I believe.

Frog legs : basically a restaurant dish. Very rarely found in supermarket. Retarded animal, who cares anyway

Foie gras : gavage has been forbidden in France for quite some time. Foie gras is now made made more humanely by letting the birds eat what they want

Ortolans are a protected species and not eaten anymore

When in a fire the first thing that goes is your ability to feel fire because it’s all on the surface and gets burned away so it’s kind of humane sort of
