I'm about to go shopping for actual healthy food so my body doesn't die but I'm a complete brainlet.

1.) What essentials do I need to make sure every nutrient is covered? So far my list is:
-Sweet Potato
-Canned Sardines
-Riced Cauliflower/Broccoli
-Water
-Brown Rice
-Chicken Breast
-Hot Sauce to give chicken flavor
-Spinach

2.) Should I just drink sugarless fruit/vegetable juice for my daily requirements? I feel like there's drawbacks to this but maybe /fit/ dudes would know.

3.) I just recently learned what BPA is so now I'm paranoid about everything from my water bottles to my sardines. What brands don't have BPA in the packaging? There's really no way to tell unless the company says so, and even then they could be lying. I can't even buy the regular brand water now with the BPA shit in there. Please help!

1 - You're thinking about this too hard. Just eat a balanced diet of meats, fats, carbs and vegetables.

2 - No. Eat whole fruits/vegetables instead. Eat a multivitamin if you're worried about vitamins and minerals and can't stomach whole fruit/vegetables.

3 - Very few products still contain BPA in their packaging because of consumer influence. If you think the manufacturer is "lying" and violating some pretty serious federal laws by doing so (do you have proofs?) then you should stop eating that food.

Both mostly non issues unless youre guzzling them and or have digestive issues with them. Phytic acid even has antioxidant properties. It'd all be swell no matter what if we had phytase to break it down but alas. These can be significantly neutralized by washing, sprouting, and fermenting

>> No.13347501

It is very cheap yes. It's what I'd do in a tight budget situation. Slowly start expanding your spice cabinet. You can also maybe go for some fresh herbs or peppers, depends on how much they are around you.

"Full nutrition" amongst grocery food items is (rarely discussed because its) really (challenging / extraneous ..) surpassed by supplements – usually both volume- and monetary- efficiency.

BPA Is the scapegoat they could blame, cut out and claim they "fixed the problem" when in fact all plastic use BPA or BPS and BPS is as much of an endocrine disruptor as BPA. There is no known food safe plastic.

Go read the book "Deep Nutrition" by Dr. Catherine Shanahan. That will answer all of your needs and be much more thorough than a quick internet post can be. Probably the best book on nutrition I've ever read (I've tried quite a few), good stuff. In general there are 4 food groups you should be eating:

1) Raw foods
2) Fermented Foods
3) Organ Meats
4) Meats on the bone

And 2 you should be avoiding:

1) Processed sugars/starches
2) Vegetable oils

I would skip the brown rice, the husk contains phytic acid that can slow the absorption of other minerals and vitamins (though this is mostly negated if you buy sprouted brown rice).

Chicken breast is fine, but it probably won't have much nutrition in it beyond protein, especially if you buy it from factory farmed chicken.

Here are some of my suggestions, trying to pick things that are nutritious and relatively cheap for newfags:

* Grass-fed butter. Grass-fed does make a difference, tastes great and has more nutrients than regular butter. Little pricier but not that expensive to buy a pack or two, tastes great with just about everything.

* Organ meats, Livers especially. Would probably be fine eating these just 1-2 times per week, they're not to everyone's taste but they're nutrient dense and cheap. An easy recipe is kidneys/livers ground up with some ground beef and formed into meatballs.

* Spinach is good, get some other salad greens, kale or arugula or romaine lettuce. Once you stop treating salad like a poverty food and start loading it up with nice meat, avocado, blue cheese, nuts, olive oil, whatever you like -- salads can be a goat cheap lunch.

* Eggs, lots of eggs.

* Raw garlic, it's not too much work to peel/chop yourself, smells great when you cook it.

Don't worry too much at first about hitting "every vitamin" -- they're always changing the science and discovering new ones. Learn the principles of good nutrition (read Deep Nutrition) and eat a healthy variety of nutrient-dense food.

As you get better at it, you'll learn how to eat well without being an autist about everything. I used to hate a lot of the diets I was on because I could never eat out with friends or enjoy tasty meals. Now I think the secret is getting real food, not the fake food you get at grocery stores, and just eating a healthy variety of it. A multivitamin is also a good trick, they're not total solutions but will probably spare you if you're missing something essential.

A few other habits:

* You should get in the habit of reading nutrition labels, google terms you don't understand and eventually you'll get familiar with them.

* Organic is better than regular, but not always. Certain root vegetables (like onions) get much less pesticide exposure than leafy vegetables (like spinach or kale). You don't have to go organic all the time, but there are some items where it matters more than others. Use a little common sense. Besides, the biggest factor in plant nutrition is soil quality, and that's going down everywhere for organic and regular foods both.

* Grass-fed is better than grain-fed for beef. Pastured chicken/eggs are better than non-pastured. There are a lot of meaningless or loosely-regulated terms -- "range-free" chicken means chicken that has a small hole in its cage so it could "technically" go on the range if it wants to. Whenever you see a food term being marketed to you then you should google it. After a while you'll build up familiarity.

* Break a rule sooner than do anything barbarous. If you really want a piece or cake or to go out with your friends at a dive, enjoy. Don't be a narc about it. Just be regular in good habits. A spoonful of coconut oil will help you digest any bad oils you may eat out, and a multivitamin will compensate for whatever you might miss on an off day.

It's a lot to take in, there is no one authority because health and nutrition is a complex topic, but Deep Nutrition is a good start. Learn a little every week.

Finally, learn to prioritize. BPAs are bad and you should avoid them, but it's more important that you worry about eating clean before you worry about touching receipts. Eat well on the budget you have before you sacrifice everything to buy an overpriced grass-fed cut of steak.

On vegetable juice -- I wouldn't, I don't really trust the effects of the processing they do, I'm sure they make that stuff from the worst almost-rotten vegetables covered in pesticides, then the processing probably takes a lot of the nutrition out anyways. Learn to eat good vegetables.

Anyways I went a bit turbo-autist, hope some of this helps you. Good luck anon.

Eat only meat. Grass fed beef. THERE is not One study that shows veg does anything. NOT ONE! There are hundreds of bias studies on meat. Like PETA just paid for a study and found out Eggs are bad! Avoid all carbs/sugar. Eat 1.5lbs of beef at 5pm. I went from 160/110 blood pressure to 120/70 in 2 months.

If you go carnivore diet you need to eat organ meat in addition to just beef. Liver is extremely good for you.
