It was a challenge on /ck/ for years, sort of like the show Chopped, where contestants were given a "mystery basket" of ingredients, and had to come up with a dish showcasing those ingredients. Pictures were sent in, and people would judge the photos based on certain criteria. In the end, there would only be a single victor, and they'd usually get a /ck/ mug, or some other dinky prize.
It was fun while it lasted, but trolling and insinuations of favoritism and cheating ended up taking their toll.
Some dude tried to get it rolling again last year, but it didn't succeed.

Same. I want to participate but voting and numbers autism/drama is a turn-off.

Is there some random ingredients generator that we can use to make weekly /ck/ challenges? No prizes, no winner, no voting. Just cooking and stupid shiptoasting about the stupid shit we make from stupid random ingredients.

>> No.13678972

Maybe someone can program a random ingredient generator with /ck/ meme ingredients like instant noodles and deenz as well as normal ones like peanut butter and onions.

Too many rules and faggotry involved. No wonder it turned into an autistic shitfest.
Just simplify the rules. Make a list of ingredients that can be bought everywhere and that aren't just US specific. Make sure to use imperial and metric conversions. Don't make it too expensive - maybe $20 max for the ingredients then let people make meals out of them. Then they post pictures and we vote with (You)s for the winner. It's not exactly rocket science.

>> No.13679014

>>13678984
The faggotry and drama comes with the voting not the trip/name-fagging. I think removing the prize/winner element will make it more fun and authentic. Competition breeds toxicity.

Let people make whatever they want, spend on this however much they want. The only limit being the ingredients.

What part of "there are no winners" do you not understand? No prizes, no-one crowned winner at the end.

It'll just be a bunch of cookalongs all using the same random ingredients for giggles. There'll be about as much incentive to samefag (you)s as for any other cookalong, which isn't a whole lot.

Last time it turned into an absolute shit show when people started voting for the most rediculous shit. On the sandwich challenge someone made a toast sandwich, literally a toasted piece of bread between two other pieces of bread and the voters were all “omg it’s so creative”. That’s when I said fuck this stupid contest. A cooking challenge where no once can actually taste the food is fucking retarded. People ended up picking a contestant they liked for whatever reason and end up voting for them no matter what they made. All one anon had to do was cover a steak in miso powder for a day, cook the steak and throw some Asian vegetables ontop of it and half the voter fawned over him like he was the second coming of Christ.

This.

Let's do this. How about:

>Friday 00:00 GMT to Thursday 11:59 GMT, one week to cook something with whatever https://www.randomlists.com/food comes up with.
>I will screenshot whatever the website comes up with. Make OP with pic.
>5 main ingredients. Hard mode: only those ingredients (or some of those ingredients if you can't get hold of any). Medium mode: ingredients plus basic seasoning/flour/etc. Easy mode: anything, but recipe has to contain at least 3 out of 5 of the ingredients.
>In the thread people wanting to participate can: post end results, post stitched up progress pics, or post links to their individual /ck/ challenge cookalongs
>No prizes, no competition
>Just challenging yourself to work with random ingredients you may not necessarily combine in everyday life and sharing the result with others on an anonymous social media site
>You can tripcode/namefag/show a totem/whatever or not, whatever. If you contribute enough OC the autists here will recognise your kitchen anyway
>Effort posting encouraged but w/e
>/ck/ challenge will run indefinitely

anything else?

This. It's been like this for like 4 years now. Every now and then someone brings up the challenge and everyone says they'd be into it, then when it happens everyone disappears when it actually takes a little bit of work to keep it going. And then you get one anon like Tiki Doomer who takes it seriously and wipes the floor with the competition, which turns off all the casuals who were just posting their regular dinner as "entries" and then complaining that nobody is interested in following the competition anymore.

This can be avoided if there was no competition. The fact it's named so makes people unnecessarily tryhard.

You ever notice how Tiki Doomer never actually makes cookalongs or content outside of the competition? Yeah.

>i'm in
>just want to see other people be creative, put in effort, compare notes
Newfriends say this literally every time someone suggests bringing back the /ck/ challenge. The problem is the logistics of keeping an ongoing challenge/OC thread up. In the past there was one anon who ran the thread and another who did all the numbers and archived everything. Then there were a handful of anons who pledged to send prizes to the winners of certain rounds, and the last 3 got mugs, and the winner got a legit trophy.
>let the autists fight over winners
I guess what I'm saying is that nobody is going to keep the challenge alive unless it's an actual tournament with long running consequences. Even if you just make a, "what did you cook tonight chopped type" thread you still need to give people at least a week to buy ingredients and put it together. How do you expect that thread to stay alive? And how do you expect to start a new thread every day with zero content? We've been through all of this before. Unless the original format comes back and all the shitposters get cancer, the challenge is dead.

It's fucking on. My autism vs. your eternal pessimism.

I'm lonely and sad enough to do this. I'll run the threads starting now. This Thurday day, 00:00 GMT

No rounds, no numbers, no winners, no prizes (for now, maybe we can do an annual participation prize for regular participants who try the challenge almost weekly over the whole year).

>>13681061
>nobody is going to keep the challenge alive unless it's an actual tournament with long running consequences
What is doing spontaneous things for fun? The people who want to participate will. If you think the real reward is some meme mug or shitty trophy you're sorely mistaken.

>how do you expect to start a new thread every day with zero content
What? You will not need a new thread every day. New thread when the old one reaches bump limit just like any other /gen/. There probably won't be much cooking content the first day as people gather ingredients but we can still bounce ideas and discuss theoretically what we would do with the ingredients.
