How do I beat my addiction to this shit.

cant wait for the overly motivational reddit response to this thread about how you can make it by going on keto or something except keto is scientifically debunked and all you have to do is eat less

I feel like I would struggle just switching to real sugar and no HFCS

Stop drinking soda, that's what hooks most people into sugar addiction because you can down a mug full of cola with ease compared to eating a chocolate bar even though they're of similar sugar content. Start drinking sparkling water with a bit of fruit juice in lieu of soda or black coffee instead of lattes. Start drinking tea and whiskeys to develop a sharper palette and pick up more subtleties. I can barely drink soda anymore, feels way too sweet and sugary.

Step 1. Admit you are powerless over sugar
Step 2. Believe in a Power greater than you
Step 3. Make a decision to understand God
Step 4. Take a moral inventory of yourself
Step 5. Admit your wrongs to God
Step 6. Be ready to have God remove the defects of your character
Step 7. Ask God to remove your shortcomings
Step 8. Make a list of all you have harmed
Step 9. Make direct amends to those you have harmed
Step 10. Continue to take personal inventory
Step 11. Pray for knowledge
Step 12. Use this knowledge in all your affairs

Or skip the steps and white knuckle it the rest of your life

I've dropped sugar almost completely, from being a guy that drank soda every day and ate candy and stuff.
And for me I just stopped eating all forms of candy, soda, using sugar in coffee etc.
Hardest time is in the evenings, I think, so I make sure to cook food pretty late so I have something that sustains me.

I had a much easier time beating the addiction to sugar by fasting for 84 hours then coming back to food without sugar in it. I had a fucking horrible headache on day 2 but after that my cravings for sugar were more or less gone. Just have to be mindful of what you eat from then on or the addiction might weasel its way back in - sugar is put in EVERYTHING. I advise you learn to cook and eat a whole foods diet, make everything you can from scratch and/or eat raw veggies and fruits.

Btw fruits are mostly okay (in moderation) because they have fiber, slowing the liver's absorption of the sugar, moderating the energy release and preventing the conversion into fat. Don't go overboard though or you might get sucked back into the white stuff.

Good luck, OP, and to anyone else who makes an effort to take back their dietary autonomy.

Addendum: I might advise educating yourself some about fasting and sugar (I would especially recommend the YouTube channel What I've Learned) first. It really makes a difference in conjuring willpower when you know what you're fighting for/against.

I really have to avoid all sugar or I will go crazy and binge on cookies and stuff
just having granola (20% sugar) with milk made me binge that day

Yep, I'm the same. I'll binge once I get a taste. But then it's all about learning that about yourself and becoming aware of the cycles you go through so you can set yourself up to avoid letting it become an every day thing.

Big agree. I have self-control issues with easy-to-eat high sugar foods. Kicked the habit after learning to savour and appreciate every aspect of food

My mindset now is basically 'first bite tastes best' - the only unhealthy snack I keep in my flat is a box of Pocky, I may eat like 3-4 sticks in a single day (50 cal). I eat one stick, and my brain knows the next one's not going to taste as good, and that disappointment completely overpowers the temptation to binge. It's a useful as fuck habit to work on
