would you ever go fully vegetarian/vegan?
what meat would you miss the most and why?
it's accepted universally almost that red meat is terrible for your health, but is it better than virtually starving your body of necessary nutrients by eating nothing but bean and nut juice as a vegan?
never mind the ethical or moral bullshit, joaquin phoenix can go fuck himself, assume every cow and pig is treated with the utmost care and killed humanely as possible, does the argument for being vegan still stand as a health concern?

Like? If you know what the fuck you're eating then you can get necessary nutrients easily in a vegan diet, and stupid fucking easy in a vegetarian diet. Omega fatty acids, B12, and essential amino acids can all be gained without the consumption of meat.

I stay away from red meats personally, I'll go for chicken or fish every now and then but I mostly eat dairy products and legumes. Yoghurt, various beans, cashews, cheese, milk, and eggs are all things I have my kitchen stocked with at all times.

True. People shouldn't adopt a vegan diet if they are unwilling to educate themselves about what their bodies require and how to satisfy those nutritional requirements without animal products. Most of those dicks are vegans because of "ethical" reasons. They don't care about their physical health, they just want to try to make the screams of the cheeseburgers in their heads stop.

We’ve been over this. Mechanical planting and harvesting kills between twenty and thirty thousand small mammals per acre, every year. These animals are not instantly killed with a captive bolt gun, but they are crushed to death in their shallow burrows or ripped to shreds by whirling blades. Their atomized gore ends up permeating every single pulse, grain, bit of rice you eat. Unless you believe that somehow a cow’s life is worth more than a vole’s or a rat’s, which is totally stupid thinking as I’m sure you agree, you’re causing more suffering and animal death than if you exclusively ate beef, where you could easily kill only one cow per person per year.

It’s not the meat industry that kills the most animals per year. It’s big grain and soy.

No, only a sick freak of a vegan would eat grains and pulses and beans. It’s absolutely cruel! This is why, as an actually ethical vegan and not just a slave to big grain, you shouldn’t eat mechanically harvested crops of any kind. Imagine this little animals getting crushed, mangled, their guts spurting out in wormlike coils as they are crushed, entire families of them! Tiny little baby bunnies and voles, their eyes just opened for the first time, and the only thing they EVER saw was their poor mommy’s skull getting smashed and her brains coming out, right before that soy harvester kills them too.

Vegan people are sick freaks and they’re in a Satanic death cult - lying and saying they’re saving the planet when their soybean hunger is deforesting the Amazon and they deal much more death than a strict carnivore. All the while lying to themselves and everybody else.

Veganism is positively Satanic unless you do it like the Jain.

When I started running seriously in the mid-90s, I decided to try vegetarian. No real reason, just thought it would be healthier or something. For the first few months, I didn't miss meat. What I did miss was the convenience. Being vegetarian is difficult unless you cook ~100pct of your own meals. Fast food is almost always out (even if you're allowing for minor cross-contamination of meats with veggies.) Dinner parties? Nope. Restaurants? Most will have something vegetarian, but it usually sucks. Have friends over for a party? Nope. They won't come unless they're also veggies -- or don't know that you are.

I never really felt any different, either. Of course, I was much younger then and was in good health anyway, so who knows if it made any real difference.

I gave up after 8 months or so when the girlfriend got a job at Outback. Smelled too damned good in there to eat veggie shit.

And then what when the infinite growth meme economics reach the point where even meme diets for 9 billion slaves aren't sustainable anymore?

this has been my experience in general.
Ive never felt particularly different though I will say that eating meat generally makes me feel more "sluggish" I guess you could say but that's not because of the meat I think it's more because those meals tend to be more full of fried bullshit.
Obviously eating a bowl of rice and beans is way better for you than a giant bucket of fried chicken and you're going to feel much better if you eat the former but taking the time to actually make health conscious meals, regardless of them being vegetarian or vegan is the way to go.

your dumbass thinks that the answer to the industrial beef problem is for everyone to become a fuckin cowboy on a micro-ranch. Beyond the issue of the amount of grass required to feed a single cow there is the issue of land productivity. Some land is more productive than others for grasses. Good land costs more than shitty land. Location as well, are we all going to depopulate cities and suburbs for a fucking micro-ranch so some dumb nogs can eat a homemade burger? there isnt any nutrient or lipid that you cant get through a well balanced vegetarian diet, even without supplements

of course a well balanced diet is a pipe dream for most people

i eat mostly vegetarian for environmental reasons. i eat wild game a couple times a year, local fish and eggs from backyard chickens

cant do veganism because i do eat a lot of dairy, its just a part of my diet i dont want to give up. also i dont understand the problem with wool farms or beekeeping

Most nutrients in plants aren’t bioavailable, what you see on paper you absorb virtually none of. Plants also have various “antinutrients” which act as their defense systems and harm the body. Plants provide empty calories at best
Vegetarians do much better because they eat eggs, dairy, and sometimes fish, but there is no benefit to cutting out meat from a nutrition perspective, and if you buy grass fed and local then from an environmental perspective as well.

as a person who works in agriculture, 86% of a typical animals diet being composed of recycled additives or forage from grazing seems incorrect, to say the least. i suppose they dont really go into detail on which animal, but i assume beef. cant read the full report though so ill have to let it go

regardless, the percentage here doesnt really mean much. by this estimate, at least 14% of food being eaten by livestock CAN be converted into food for human consumption. in terms of productive acreage, i promise you that number is a HUGE amount. this is putting aside the fact that land for mass grazing often has it's own ecological impact factors, like destroying habitat, deforestation, soil degradation

lastly, they compare input of grain to cattle to output of protein, but in this write up at least, they conspicuously avoid a direct comparison with any alternative source of protein or nutrients. even if the nutritional argument is true, i havent seen any convincing argument why the status quo is by any means the best way of fulfilling that

Just because you think it works for you doesn't mean its an optimal diet. In fact there is NO fucking credible science on what -is- optimal for humans. We can only judge what seems most beneficial but most of this is snake oil salesmen just offloading their products onto you.
Most dietary science itself surrounds itself with industrial wood waste repackaged with cutting edge graphics to make it seem like hot shit. But fwiw you're eating basically elmers glue and corn starch. You get what you deserve.

>Veganism is positively Satanic unless you do it like the Jain.

Jains drink milk. They also don't eat tubers.

Also lets not just stop at the damage the harvester combine does. You have to remember before the grain is planted, you have to till the soil, which rips up insects and animals burrowed underneath, and it destroys the integrity of the soil, making it prone to drought and flood, fortunately, no till agriculture is slowly becoming more popular among cash croppers.

But even if you do no till, you need a planter, and you need fertilizer. Organic fertilizer sources it's cow shit from manure ponds from intensive feedlots. But non organic fertilizer is worse. That shit combined with the shitty hydrophobic soil is enemy number 1 for causing massive fish die offs and growing ocean dead zones like in pic related.

And we haven't even gotten to pesticides yet.

Anyways, eat grass fed pasture raised animals on regenerative local farms. Source your fucking food I don't care what kingdom you eat from you stupid faggots.

If you actually read the literature cited in the WHO's claim that red/processed meat gives you cancer you will find that the opposite is true.

They did almost 800 studies and only published like 26 of them, and a lot of those studies consisted on injecting rats with known carcinogens, feeding them huge amounts of red meat, and then seeing if their colons looked weird. They actually found in some of these experiments that red meat protected against cancer.

Their published conclusions are incredibly sketchy and unscientific. You have to ask yourself who paid for all this research.

There is NOTHING bad about red meat. The ""carcinogenic"" status of it is ridiculous, there are huge amounts of sodium nitrate and other cancerous properties of plant foods and inflammation to your digestion system that plants cause, which can lead to cancer. Even things like gluten are bad for everyone even if you're not intolerant. If your goal is to reduce your cancer risk to the lowest possibility for whatever reason then you'd best be eating some kind of carnivore diet with boiled meats or some shit. If you're consuming sugar (in any form), wheat, plant foods, grilled foods, alcohol, your cancer risk is already being elevated hugely by all of these things.

Vegan is no healthier than vegetarian, just more restrictions and harder to stay full. It fucked with my metabolism or something, I was always hungry and lethargic.

When I was a vegetarian I missed chicken the most which I didn't expect. I broke my vegetarianism with chicken wings. I didn't expect my stomach to get BTFO like it did. It's like my body forgot how to process meat, I could feel my gut churning.

I could go vegetarian. I'd miss meat for sure, but I could still eat delicious meals every day and enjoy life mostly unencumbered by the dietary restriction.
I could never go vegan though. Vegan food replacement options suck and are obnoxiously expensive. Not being able to eat eggs or dairy cuts out an huge swath of possible food options, and demands not only cooking every single meal yourself. You can't eat out with friends, and you can't have meals with your family without either massively inconveniencing everyone or forcing them to follow your dietary restriction as well.

It's also just not that sensible. In terms of ecological impact, the difference between vegan and vegetarian is trivial. As an ethical matter it's totally possible to consume milk and eggs without harming animals, and the best way to make sure that happens is to economically support ethical producers of those products.

Hold on there son, it's hard to compare ISIS and animal agriculture. A better comparison would be to compare ISIS to extremist veganism, since animal agriculture isn't a terrorist religion that harasses people who don't follow their religion, but extremist veganism does.

But that comparison wasn't being made, it was the quality of argument that was being criticized.

I don't really give a fuck about the animals, I've hunted plenty and have no qualms about feeding myself. But it's still an ethical issue. Animals are just super inefficient at converting calories, between fodder and pasture we use like 3/4 of ag land for animal production. 75% of the land for like 5-10% of your diet just seems fucking retarded and unsustainable.

Ok so what was the point of you bringing up isis?

My whole thing is you dont have to raise animals in tiny cramped shitty cages in order to eat them. I know it happens, but it doesnt have to be that way. Seriously, your isis comparison or whatever was weak. If you wanna eat tofu be my guest.

>My whole thing is you dont have to raise animals in tiny cramped shitty cages in order to eat them.
Which is a fucking moot point, cause yeah you don't have to, but people still DO, for the vast majority of meat production.
A single picture of a free range chicken is laughably irrelevant, it literally proves nothing.
You posted like 4 pics, like you were making some grande argument, when in reality you just made a pretty stupid, moot point.

>> No.13716687

To illustrate your faulty logic.
There is no thematical connection.
I'm not drawing parallels to isis itself, I am saying "Here is a picture of ISIS not murdering anyone, does that mean ISIS is not murdering anyone for real?" To which the answer is of course NO, that of course proves nothing.
Just like,
just because you have a picture of some chickens in forest, doesn't mean there are not millions and millions of chickens in tiny cages right now, I'd wager to say the majority of chickens is in fact NOT being happy and free in some forest.
The point being, that you have no point, cause your entire logic is faulty and moronic.
Are you being for real? Or just playing dumb?

I'm not in denial of the fact that people are raising animals in cages, however if you Source your food, you can actually support Farms that don't put their animals in tiny cramped shity little cages. I mean, I'm planning to start raising my own chickens in less than a year , and there are absolutely no plans to raise them in cages. This would get in the way of my regenerative agriculture plan, I'm going to need their manure on pasture to help restore topsoil. You're just butt hurt because animals don't have to be tortured in order to be eaten.

They feed on corn and soy and all that.
Which require farms.

No amount of mental gymnastics will make veganism somehow less morally viable than eating meat.

>I eat meat but I still disagree with you eating meat
Wow.

Also you don't know the first thing about animal husbandry, crop agriculture, or soil health. What do you think livestock ate before grain subsidies and industrial crop farming and massive mechanized gas guzzling tractors, sprayers, and combines?

Cows are ruminants, even in an industrial setting they are only grain finished in order to be quickly fattened up for the last few months of their lives, because too much silage can burn a hole in their gut. They are optimized to eat grass.

>my excuse being: I like it, I don't really care that much honestly.

If you really don't care you wouldn't be talking to me. Our industrialized modern food system bothers you too.
