I agree somewhat because 8oz of a drink is never satisfying. 8 oz is 236 ml, and I always find myself craving about 300 ml at a time.

So when I want a drink, I always end up pouring a cup, drinking it, and then pouring a little more and sipping it.

>> No.13729084

the crazy thing is that customary units aren't even the real units on nutrition info. they measure using grams and then just pick a customary unit that is somewhere close. Like it could say 1 cup but actually 3/4 cup if you measured it. completely useless retard units

It's exactly 8 fluid ounces you retard. "Cup" doesn't mean "pour out any random sized cup's worth of fluid you feel like." It's the same idea as how you shouldn't interpret a "foot" as being set to whatever length your own shoes happen to be.

A convenient unit of measure back before standardization. Most houses had some kind of cup, so recipes could be standardized based on something everyone had readily available to measure with and get "good enough" ingredient ratios. When it was standardized into the official 8-ounce measure, with larger sizes based on doubling values (16: Pint, 32: Quart, 128: Gallon) the name just stuck, because the volume was close to an average-size cup.

You need to figure out the weight to convert to grams meaning you often have to measure using cups then weigh that amount of food. Sometimes people have already figured out a decent conversion, but things like flour can vary from brand to brand even if they are the same type of flour. If accuracy is important at all, I look for recipes that include or primarily use weight measurements. It's been a good filter for shitty recipes, so I've started favoring all recipes that at least include weight equivalents.
