Why do Americans eat only protein and carbs? I've never seen a American eat a vegetable or fruit and where I live it's normal to eat salad with every meal.

I eat some spinach, broccoli, and take a multivitamin.

For me it's about survival. Chicken, rice, broccoli, lentils, spinach, eggs, whole grain toast or oats, some butter. Funny enough that gets you just about every vitamin you need except for B-1. Costs me $300 a month to eat the same shit with 0 waste and perfect planning. Food is expensive. America is expensive. We really just cant waste our money on veggies that usually lack nutrients. So for me I pick the best ones. Life isnt bad here but it's becoming unaffordable for anyone who doesnt make 40-50k a year. That number is harder to hit than you could imagine over here. Inflation is going to fly up because the government is giving everyone money but it does nothing for the economy in reality.

Do you live in a big city or something? Where I live, a diet like that for a single person would cost you 200 a month tops.

Tampa Bay area. I'm also a college student. My monthly expenses without going out or buying anything extra come out to $2040 a month. That's a car with payments, gas, insurance. Plus phone, groceries, rent, and utils. I have 3 roommates. I cant even afford to deviate from my budget.

This is pretty bullshit. I eat a diverse diet with some “fancy” costly ingredients here and there, cooking for 2, and I still don’t spend $300 a month on groceries. Plus I live in Ann Arbor which is a more expensive region than fucking Tampa bay due to the University here and all the posh hipster shit that comes with it. Dont even get me started on the alcohol laws and prices here.

>> No.13988720

Carrots, celery, potatoes, onions, and kale are on my weekly list of things to buy due to how much I use them. I'm even midwestern.

Pretending the US is a monolith must be some sort of therapy for Europeans because they all do it.

Is Ann Arbor really that expensive? I mean, I'm sure the rent and all the fancy restaurants are pretty costly, but surely the costs at Meijer in Ann Arbor aren't higher than a Meijer anywhere else in the state?

Well, I dont shop at megastores unless I have to. But yeah rent and insurances isn’t the best here. Cheaper here than PA though.

Since when is Meijer a megastore? You aren't a Michigander if you don't shop at Meijer (or alternatively, Kroger).

Not him but also live in ann arbor, yes it's more expensive here. Not usually a problem unless you can't drive since ypsi is like 10 minutes away and has normal prices.

>> No.13988776

>>13988758
It’s a megastore anon. Both of those are. Im not a michigander, I moved here. I mainly shop local. AA is actually really decent for local stuff. Which also means my grocery bill is higher on that basis than it would be if I shopped at a megastore. And I still dont spend $300 a month on it.

>measuring American milk by the quarter liter
What the fuck

Also, that measurement doesn't even work, because for some bizzare reason i don't understand, Milk in America is most typically sold in a 1 gallon and 1/2 gallon size, but the 1/2 gallon costs 80% as much as the full gallon instead of being half price. It makes no sense.
