Too many to count considering we've taken in everyone's tired, the poor, the huddled masses that earned to breathe free. We have assimilated a lot of the world's cuisines and that's a beautiful thing. But when I think "what is something truly unique to the US that I can't really get anywhere else", I think diners.

Diners are so goddamn good. Getting a couple of eggs sunny side up or a club sandwich with a cup of coffee served to you by either an older woman or her daughter while getting called "hun" or some variation of that is a uniquely, comfy American experience that most people around the world don't know about. I work at whole foods and I think that this is the part that a lot of people don't understand. I don't think people get that even if they're seemingly unaffected, they can still be carriers and can still infect others.

I see a parent with a mask and a kid without all the time. I see some fit younger and even older people not wear a mask. I've had to tell several people to wear a mask next time because my store doesn't enforce the mask rule yet. I've had to tell many people to keep their distance, sometimes aggressively so. I work in a wealthy, educated area and this dumb shit persists.
