Garlic and salt.

I use one clove of garlic for every cup of rice. I smash the garlic with a knife, add a pinch of salt, and chop the garlic real good. The salt will melt the garlic and you will end up with a chunky paste.

Them I heat a little bit of oil (whatever oil you prefer) in a pan, add the garlic and let they fry for about 30 to 60 seconds, you have to stir up constantly to prevent the garlic from sticking in the pan and burn.

Next, I add the rice, and let the rice dry cook there for about the same period as the garlic, still stir up constantly.

Then, I add the water (about 2 cups for every cup of rice), and put one teaspoon of salt for every cup of rice.

Let it in high heat to boil, and then turn it down to low heat, close the lid and let there for about 20 minutes.

You can do that using onions too (1/4 of a onion for every cup of rice)...

The trick to getting fat to stay down is to emulsify it. If you're literally just going for rice+fat, I find a nice mixture of butter and olive oil plus some spices is a stupid easy meal.

I would also recommend the buffalo dip/casserole recipe they put on the bottle of frank's. Maybe its just me, but I can put away an entire batch of that in one sitting, plus the entire bag of chips I inevitably go through eating it. Its just chicken, cheese, cream cheese, ranch if you like, and of course, hot sauce, so its fat, fat, fat, some protein, and more fat.

Bone in chicken breasts, or pieces of chicken, rubbed in lemon or lime, paprika, garlic, salt, pepper.
Bake 4 to 6 at once in a pyrex just til browned, add your rice, a chopped onion, maybe some tomatoes or rotel, water or broth, cover and bake til broth absorbed and chicken done. The bone's juices will render into the rice making it rich and sticky with gelatin. If you leave off the tomato, I will go ahead and for leftovers, pull the meat off the bones on night two, and turn it into Cuban style Arroz Imperial, which gets a layer of mayo on top of the rice like a moisture barrier, before a browned topping of sliced ham then muenster cheese. Rich from the mayo weirdly enough.
I like boxed yellow rice, store rotisserie chicken, and a mock up of chicken kitchen mustard curry sauce, and top your rice with the sauce. Am I the only one who likes what is really a mayo based sauce on rice? No I see it everytime I go in there.

I was pretty poor and only had rice, flour, basic seasonings and cheese sauce. So I'd cook a giant batch of rice, dry it out and fry it with seasonings.

Than I'd make small bread balls stuffed with rice and dip them in the cheese sauce. It wasn't too filling but it did taste pretty good and I could cook up huge batches of it.

As for favorite? Cheesy rice with some sort of meat and soy.

There is the option of ketchup fried rice.
It's pretty sweet, so some people may not like it.

Got a recipe of japanese fried garlic rice from some asian chick's site.

Soy/Oyster sauce/Mirin rice wine/sesame oil/fish sauce/little bit of brown sugar
Garlic, spring onions, egg.

You can put stuff in it, I really liked it with slices of fried chicken or shrimp but it's good enough on its own to be honest. The sauce makes it super savory. Though I multiple the # of rice by x2 for what it calls for.

Traditionally, soy sauce was absolutely used as a general topping for rice. It was a great way to add salt to the meal, and up until the Meiji Restoration there were times where worse-off people could still be deficient in it. Even them, other toppings were still used, like natto, or the egg in that webm. These days, it has fallen out of favor as a rice topping relative to other foods.

It's like how peasants in Europe might commonly eat plain gruel. The sure didn't like it either, but it was sustainable, and there were times where they may not have alternatives.

>and up until the Meiji Restoration there were times where worse-off people could still be deficient in it
Correction: also true in the great depression and WWII, but those were exceptional times where hunger also occurred in much of the rest of the world. Japan's periodic food deficiencies in the Edo period were more severe than the average of most Western European and North American states at the time, again with exceptions.
