Now you know how spics feed a dozen kids with just food stamps.

They’re already cooked in the can. Heat in a small skillet and add cumin and garlic. For refried, mash in skillet once heated, then add seasonings, hot sauce, a dash of liquid smoke, then finish by stirring in a teaspoon of mayo or sour cream before serving.

Mashing them should break apart the cellulose and allow your pathetic intestines to digest them more effectively.

What you do is you get a pot, pour them in, pour water, and let it boil. Then let it cool, and fry it, put that in a bowl, mix it with mozzarella, and put a handful sized ball of that mix into a pattie of cornflour and water. Wrap the cornflour around, and place it on a flat pan. Get it out with some burn, not burnt to a crisp, and there you have it, A pupusa

Unrelated question: are beans cooked from scratch much better than out of a can? I'm a beaner, so growing up I always had beans cooked from scratch, but I'm curious if I can skip some steps and start buying canned instead of dried...

What you want is to cook your own.

Start out with dried black beans and soak over night. Then you drain and rinse (a lot). Then put in an instant pot cover them with water, about 1 inch above the beans. Then select the Bean option and cook. Wait an hour and don’t let them soak in their own juice. It’s when they sit in their own juice that they taste like shit. I recommend rinsing them after soaking and possibly after they are cooked and drained. Do 1lb at a time and store in a large container. Lasts 3-5 days in frig. Enjoy with brown rice and olive oil and hot sauce or salsa

The issue there is you bought the wrong can.
Don't buy
"black beans" which is meant for salads or mexican dishes.

Do buy
"seasoned black beans"
or
"black bean soup"

Cuban black beans have some of the beans disintegrated into thickened rich dark puree. They are simmered for literal hours in bay leaf, olive oil, onion, cubanelle pepper (green bell pepper works), cumin, culantro/cilantro/dried coriander, oregano, saffron or bijol, salt pork, and a speck of dark brown sugar to balance the sweetness. It's also often cooked in a pressure cooker to drive in the flavors, not just cook it. In lieu of the bijol, you can use sazon goya which may have too much of one ingredient :/, but you can also buy preseasoned beans made to exactly the cuban style.

Something about pressure cooked dry beans sucks unless you boil them to the point that the whole thing is thin bean mud. The skins of the beans don't react well to it.

add a canned tomato product (dice tomatoes, tomato puree, tomato past, whole peeled tomatoes pulsed in a food processor, any tomato sauce) a little water and some spices and simmer ina sauce pan and eat with bread.
I add aspartame to my stew to sweeten it up, you could add some sugar if you want, or use sweet tomatoes/sauce.

I eat this every day, sometimes twice a day. it is literally all I eat, and I feel great.

>cooked from scratch
get a pressure cooker, beanbro. I recommend the presto 01370. It will cook beans very quickly. many of my soaked beans will need to cook for only 1 minute under pressure.

Depends on the brand, but most are just as good. Chickpeas are the exception. All canned ones have this strange soapy taste to them, so I prefer cooking them from scratch.
