I've always wondered the same. I've always been surprised that pizza takeouts didn't keep a fryer going since they often do have so few sides. You're lucky to get a salad offered. It's either breadsticks or cheese breadsticks. Nothing but an oven most places. This is why Italian restaurants are the preferred takeout for pizza. At least you can bring in some fresh rolls, not sticks, and a great salad.

As a South Floridian....oh,, we have our munchies covered though, every neighborhood has these places, from Blue Sky to the mom and pop places.
The FRITANGA. Out of Nicaragua, primarily, this place is the superior version of a munchie shop. Fried everything from whole fish to stuffed things to chunks of meat to be topped with pickled cabbages or onions, plus the usual extremely filling sides as well. For the price of one combo meal, you can go home and feed 6 people or just be a lardito.

Only thing that pisses me off as an American is the logistics of the packaging:
>Here's the cheapest garbage in the restaurant
>Shove it all in a pizza box for some reason

That's what happens when you let foreigners make bad imitations of western food.

>I've always been surprised that pizza takeouts didn't keep a fryer going since they often do have so few sides.

A commercial deep-fryer is an expensive, maintenance-intensive appliance that increases safety risks in a kitchen. It would also require a grease trap to be installed if one isn't already present.

You ought to wonder instead why so many pizzerias offer menu items or pizza toppings that require additional appliances and supply chains, such as fried foods, burgers, etc. There's a lot of cost involved in operating a full kitchen just for side items and toppings, unless they are trucked in prepared and simply reheated, as the chains do.

If you have a pizza oven (which themselves are bulky and expensive) and cold storage/prep you can offer plenty of variety without having to resort to kids menu items and meme toppings. Your food will not only be cheaper with higher profit margins it'll be healthier too.

South Florida bro, I think in your case it's because they don't want to compete with the Fritanga's. Other anon, I have never encountered a ma and pa pizzeria in Central Florida that doesn't offer knots (rolls), wings, and fries. There's one in the next town over that's got a an ice cream parlor attached to it. The cost of offering these items must be worth it to them. Also, where do you live that has pizzerias selling burgers? Some of ours sell sandwiches warmed in the pizza ovens, but I've never seen burgers on a pizza menu.
