Californian tag here and I have to agree. If you actually go to an Atlantic coast and get it and can compare fresh for fresh I think Atlantic edges out Pacific. I notice it in sardines and anchovies quite a bit in Spain and I also prefer American mid-atlantic soft shell crab, also the north Atlantic has lobster so that's another plus.

Oceans might have big fish and a lot of them and big crabs/lobsters but you can find the best seafood in small peculiar regions such as mediterraneo sea in particular adriatic for mussels (best mussels are in restricted and quasi dirty Waters), sicily or souther Italy for octopus and Red shrimp (probably the best thing that ever happen to this world, tastes like Sugar), coast of northern France for oysters, rocky beaches of Japan for strange things like Sea snails etc. What i want to say Is that Oceans are like big industrial production while small seas and their specific coasts are like the top quality of artisans and local manufaction, i dont know if this metaphore Is right but u get the point
