My boyfriend had never tried B&G before I made it for him one weekend. His mother is a failure microwave chef so the sausage gravy ended up blowing his brains out. He ate two servings of it and wallowed in pain and happiness for the rest of the morning. Good times.

It pretty much needs to be meat grease and fond to get that meaty and smoky flavor. Otherwise, it's just a peppery bechamel. Pepper bechamel can be fine on something like chicken fried steak in a pinch, but it's just too one note for pouring over biscuits.
