Your bay leaves are probably ancient and dried out as fuck so they've indeed lost all their flavor. Once I got a bay tree and had fresh leaves it's night and day from store bought.

My father made a tomato sauce last night and was a little overzealous with the bay leaves. Might have been the first time I had a meal with too much bay leaf.

Pungent and green, a little piney or camphorus and warmth that's similar to pepper but not spicy. It's a bit hard to describe herb flavors. Out of common ones it's probably closest to thyme or tarragon but distinct.

I use the powdered form of bay leaves as an aphid repellant on my foreskin and also the genitals of my twin daughters. Extremely important in this region, they go after the piss hole for the nourishing urine. Use fresh leaves to avoid rashes.

Not him and you likely didn't try it but the reason they're used in soups and stocks is because it takes a while of simmering for the compounds to come out. Also as said if it's really old or stored badly it will affect the flavor.

Take a few, simmer them on low for 45 minutes or so. If you still don't taste anything you're either cooking with dust or just have a fucked up mouth. There's a reason it's been such a widely used and sought after herb for millennia.

I have a laurel tree in my backyard. Always smells amazing during summer time. Fresh laurels are potent as fuck, in a 10gal pot of stew I'll use 2 tops.

Yeah keep them in a sealed jar in a dark preferably cool place for best results but like most herbs they'll go dusty and lose flavor.
