Most Asian people here are south Asian, and cuisine and culture has been brought over from south Asia (everyone knows the British love a curry, however inauthentic they may be). Chinese and other East Asian people are a lot rarer, especially outside of student cities, so if somebody is talking about Asians, south Asian people are typically the ones that come to most peoples minds.
