American here. I am a successful job creator whose hard work the democrats want to steal and give to minorities. On payday, as soon as I'm done at the check cashing place, I like to drive to the good McDonalds in an upscale neighborhood in my best bible theme T-shirt and order an extra large corn beverage to go with my 100% USDA approved textured beef product. I enjoy it from the driver's seat of my Dodge Charger which is the most manly car in the history of the USA and freedom.

Now that you mention it, my mother's apple pie.

Always made for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but most importantly it's what she always made for me on my birthday (which is today btw), instead of nasty birthday cake which I never liked.

No pie today, but this weekend I might try to make one, I have her recipe but have never attempted it myself.

Pic related, the last one she made

Different anon here.

Dijon mustard.
brown sugar
-optional: honey or maple syrup (less traditional but tasty).

White sugar can be used, but it doesn't add to the taste, other than sweeten it.

Do not use any sweet mustard. If the Dijon mustard in your local stores are sweet, go search through google and see if you can order some real mustard home.

I would recommend using something like pic related a course mustard that isn't really sweet but also not Dijonstrong so it actually has a lot of taste as well.

If it is hard to find where you are you can just make your own, search for a recipe for "Skånsk senap" and then translate to english

I’ll check Lidl. I was thinking pic related , common brand here I. The US and mild

>> No.14796263

>>14796197
Yes that looks like the right style i.e. course mustard so it should work the only thing I'm wondering about is how mild are we talking about when you mention it's mild because the mustard is supposed to have a lot of taste and be pretty strong not sweet or too mild.

Should work with that instead but just try it first because you need a pretty strong mustard for it to give a lot of taste to the meat but I am not talking about Dijon strong that is like strong but doesn't really have any taste other than hot while these type of course mustards have a whole lot of taste as well as being strong when compared to the really mild mustards but not even close to dijon.

>> No.14796438

>>14796263
The flavor is mild in the American sense. In America, mustard is stereotypically the bright yellow Heinz mustard given the color with extra turmeric. I don’t care for it, rather unpleasant desu. More “exotic” mustard is either sweetened with honey or spiced with horseradish. German (and by extension any other European style )mustard is more or less an obscure delicacy. Pic related was a German style course ground mustard “typical” of the German style. Mild meaning no added sweetener or spice.

>> No.14796493

>>14796438
I don't think I have ever tried the Heinz yellow mustard but I have tried American style mustard and that isn't remotely close to what you should use for this dish because whatever that is isn't what I'm referring to when I say mustard (it is good for some stuff but it just isn't really mustard mustard the same way as I don't even think of Dijon as mustard either) but no added sweetener or spices does sound just right and this type of course mustard is a style of mustard from the southern part of Sweden which is very close to northern Germany so it will likely have influenced eachother.

Had no idea that regular mustard without any other stuff in it wasn't prevalent in the US it is just such a foreign concept seeing as regular or strong course mustard is something that is more or less always paired with Ketchup over here and just eating Ketchup without mustard just tastes too sweet.

Yes I understand but with mustard that sometimes go hand in hand a mustard can be strong but more or less flavorless, it can be mild as in not spicy but also not strong flavor, it can be mild with much flavor and it can also be more spicy with a lot of flavor where it isn't just hot it has a lot of flavor but with a zing to it.

leek pastry. it's only made in my home region and not even by street food vendors, but only by housewives. and not even by all housewives, because the only person i know who makes it is my mom. but since i moved out from home to the capital, the only way to have it is if i myself make it. but i'm too lazy to make baked goods so i only work up the will to make it around my birthday as a treat for guests. here's a collage of four pics of leek pastry to show you what i mean. why four? because i'm not good enough at making it for it to come out the same every time.
