Egg cups are the only reasonable way to eat soft boiled eggs. Otherwise you'd have to eat them like a poached egg.

Soft boiled eggs are the best way to eat a yolk. I used to dip toast in the yolk but now I'm keto so I dip slices of cheese or bacon.

You eat soft boiled eggs with it. Soft boiled mean very soft whites and liquid just warm yolks. You open the top part and eat it with a slice of toast or spoon. You can eat soft boiled eggs without the cups or it will become a mess where the yolk goes everywhere but in your mouth. It's a european thing for people with proper table etiquette. Americas are too afraid of raw jolks to even understand that concept.
