15223635 No.15223635 [Reply] [Original]

What is the most exotic/uncommon meat you've eaten?
For me, it was kangaroo meat. It was alright.

>> No.15223641

I had an emu burger in 2011 at a neat bar in Grand Rapids MI. It was apparently memorable because that's all I remember from that visit to some college in that town, completely forgot that I visited the Ford library at that time.
I thought kangaroo was supposed to be pretty tough?

>> No.15223648

>>15223635
Probably wild boar, there's a lot of them around where I live so a few local butchers sell it. I'm not sure I could tell the difference between it and pork though.

>> No.15223650

>>15223635

When a food item because available in common supermarkets I no longer consider it 'exotic' - just a lesser marketed food item. It's no different than something like 98% dark chocolate at that point - most people haven't tried that either nor is it particularly well stocked but its there for the average consoomer to buy and gloat over. It's no longer special, it's no longer 'exotic'.

>> No.15223654

Rabbit and duck are semi-common in my life but I know some 'mericans are iffed by them
The oddest one I had might be boar. As you'd expect it's like pork but tougher and darker.

Doesn't it defeat the point of trying emu meat? I mean it must taste like a normal burger, right?
>I thought kangaroo was supposed to be pretty tough?
Yeah it was quite tough but still enjoyed it. I don't mind tough meat.

>> No.15223671

Uncommon as in uncommon animal? Venison.
Uncommon as in part of any animal? Lamb brain. It was mushy and tasted kinda strange, but I would've been indifferent to it if my father didn't tell me what it was.

Didn't know about that. Duck is delicious.

I'm pretty sure they recommended it rare-medium rare and it was definitely much different than a beef burger. It wasn't drenched in juices but it was definitely more juicy than a rare beef patty.

Ive eaten squirrel, possum, coon, blue jay, cardinal, and some kind of hawk. Basically anything I could shoot with my .22, growing up in a part of Florida that was still swampbilly. That part today is nothing but "luxury apartments" and shopping plazas full of hipster stores. Gentrification is real, and it doesn't just happen to black people. People I grew up with and my own family had to give up their subsistence and community driven lifestyles and move to a low income, crime ridden place, and pretty much all got addicted to hard drugs as a result. Truly, the days where I shot rodents to help my family get some protein besides eggs and goat cheese, from our chickens and goats, were the good old days, and once they all fell to the trappings of modern society, they all degraded; meanwhile, I'm wagecucking in a city and have been for quite some time, trying to save to buy land to go back to that lifestyle.

Rabbit is amazing, like a slightly sweet chicken. Bison is just beefier better beef. Venison is beef but leaner and spicy, very good. Elk is the same but fattier and therefore better, probably the best game meat. Bear is greasy and disgusting. Gator is literally half chicken half catfish in taste. Duck is amazing, just tops. Hmm, what else....lamb is ok, mutton and goat is ok but only if Indians make it. Squirrel is shit. Pheasant is very good I hear, never tried. Quail is tiny chicken, no difference. Mussels are really good, as are most mollusks. I would like to try turtle.

Well in India it was at the Taj Fisherman's Cove, Chennai and the best thing I remember eating there was prosciutto wrapped asparagus at the bar. I had seafood for dinner both nights at their outdoor restaurant and it was just OK. This was in January 2013 on company money. The Indian food I had at itc gran chola (lol) was way better. The Japanese restaurant I went to in the big c mall in north Pattaya I can't find online, but that was 2007 and I was perpetually drunk. But I went to that restaurant like 10 times in 6 weeks, I liked it. The horse meat I alluded to was also in Pattaya at a hole in the wall and it was great and cheap.

the weirdest thing I ate was balut. it was weird and gross and had eyeballs, feathers and bones, and internal organs. it tasted like duck, which was surprising.

I suppose ostrich is somehwat exotic, it was pretty good. also had other normie birds like pigeon quail goose etc

also had shit like snails, silkworm pupaes, various other bugs, muttonbird (it's like a baby seagull, tastes fucking revolting), whitebait (not sure they eat these overseas - see pic). all kinds of random sea creatures.

to the people eating seal - what the fuck is wrong with you? have you not smelt those fucking animals? I fucking hate seals so much. stinky fucking sea dog

I'm a vegan now anyway, and have no desire to try any other animals.

Probably a bunch more, I can't remember
I don't think I've ever eaten cat, but I once ate some kind of wildcat by accident.

I've had dog a couple times in Korea. It really depends on how they prepare it. The first time I had it was in Busan, and it was real shit. Just a really bland soup, no real seasoning.
But the other times I had it were in real rural parts of Korea, and they really prepared the meat well. Honestly, if it weren't dog meat, I could see people enjoying those meals.

Horses have never really been raised solely for their meat. We started eating them in Europe during war time and mostly in the cities where there were a lot of horses used for transportation.
