Had this happen at the grocery store I worked at, they ended up calling corporate. Even after our manager explained what happened they got a $50 gift card and 2 free cakes.
Currently work at a family bakery- my boss will kick people out of it constantly or if they say something costs too much tells them safeway is right down the street. Life is good. He had also worked for the hell grocery store I did before he opened his, so he doesn't take retail shit anymore.

I used to work at Dunkin Donuts and once this old man’s senior discount card wasn’t working and he flipped out saying he’d never come here again etc. I loaded up a bag of donuts and gave them to him for free and he was all happy. I never gave in when this happened. They could talk to my manager all day. Sure, the manager gave in, but the look on some of their faces when I just autistically explained why they weren't going to get what they wanted was priceless. Adults act like babies all the time. I've worked all sorts of retail jobs because I had jobs as a kid and after my mom and grandparents died I lost interest in coding and just wanted to slack off and do something easy, and let me tell you, I did just enough to be worth my wage and that was more than nearly all of my coworkers.
