Back when I bussed tables the only time I would get mad was when people would not only get food onto the floor but would step on it and grind it into cracks/crevices.

To be honest, sometimes I do stuff like that because knowing that someone has to clean it up feels kind of good. I like to do it sneakily, like empty a ketchup packet on the table, but hide it under the napkin holder in the middle of the table so that they discover the mess only when they go to put it in the right place. Or shake salt all over the seat next to me. I don't know why, but it feels pretty awesome. I'll go home, settle down and relax, thinking that someone is cleaning up the mess I made.

Not really. I just like making that extra bit of work for them. To be fair, I really hate servers. They are extremely entitled and always demand more while themselves being completely disposable and replaceable. You can replace them with unpaid monkeys, and it wouldn't change that much.
With just a few seconds of time and next to no effort, I can significantly impact their mood and overall job satisfaction. It feels good to have this kind of power over people I hate.

I have no idea if they are radically steam cleaned, but they are a special outdoor kind of carpet. You see them often in hotel hallways, those thin floor carpets, else every person would hear hall noise in their rooms.

Instead of a plate, you do this by holding your meal receipt or some other piece of paper on top of the glass.
Then you just flip it upside down, place it on the table, and the paper easily pulls out from underneath it without releasing any water.

while we don't know the EXACT way this particular glass was set upside down, i can tell you that a lot of restaurants (especially chains where the kind of clientele would do something like this) will have a laminated menu with specials, drinks, desserts, a smaller version of the main menu, etc.

on topic, with all my experience i can say it's really only families with small kids that trash restaurants. most families clean up, it's only the little kids who are sloppy and drop food everywhere that are annoying. the majority of people clean up after themselves.

the people who throw cups away with liquid still in them i will never understand. there's kind of a plague of people who don't think about how bad that is. the bags used in restaurants are changed every day, of course they're going to be cheap and flimsy. doesn't take much to spring a leak and droplets of soda get all over the lobby while carrying it outside.
