why do people online always get mad when people complain about food? Do you not remember being disgusted by certain food as a kid?
I was dirt fucking poor and if my mom bought food I didn't like, I'd find something else to eat or just wouldn't eat. Food is about flavor and enjoyment, not survival. I'd rather go hungry than subject myself to a moment of non-enjoyment.

luckily my kid likes my cooking but I check with her before I make new things to discuss them with her, since she's into food too. If she's apprehensive or it doesn't sound good, I don't make it or we make a small dish together to try. That kid's mom should learn to fucking cook, there is zero excuse besides having no taste. Simple as.

I used to make chicken breasts with salt and pepper in a grill press before I learned how to cook. It was fucking dire. Now I do jerk chicken on the grill, or korean fried chicken with spicy dipping sauce. Midwest white food is horrible. Invariably underseasoned and overcooked meat and vegetables w/o even an attempt at innovation or creativity "'cause 'dats dem high falutin' furriner things." It's like they never progressed from the homestead days where both women and men were busting their ass 16 hours/day just to survive and there was neither time nor interest in making food anything but a means to sustain life. Yes, but it's more a generational thing. Boomers, actual boomers, which are mostly white, have no concept of cooking. Most white people here will have to admit that they probably had a dad that grilled and a mom that could whip up 2-3 shitty meals.

I love my parents but
