They do a better job of flipping and retrieving delicate items than tongs.
They're a useful tool. Easier to wash than a whisk.

The use spoons, knives, etc regularly as well OP, and depending on the area forks are adopted.

They more convenient than any of the three for picking up and handling bite-sized food, and most dishes account for this by making bite-sized solids.
I didn't grow up with them (got used to them living abroad), but I use them for whisking as well if it's not a very viscous item, since they are easy to clean and give you some control on how it's whisked.

The one thing I use them for that I have no excuse for is eating chips when I have some. Even Asians cringe at me for doing that, but I don't care for greasy hands.

I do the same thing, fuck what asian people think.

Since I eat chips seated at my computer for the most part and don't want to get my $300-dollar RGB-bedighted gamer keyboard all crusty, it's basically a necessity to do something of that sort.

The only other option that I explored before chopsticks was a small plate and using the natural stickiness of the human tongue to retrieve individual chips after raising the plate to my mouth. Come to think of it, thin chips are probably the one food item chopsticks clearly beat all other common utensils. Too brittle for a fork and usually too wide to effectively use with a spoon.
Basically any situation where you need to grab/pinch over a short distance, chopsticks will win out unless it's big enough for tongs. Maybe tweezers could be used with chips, since the action is pretty similar, but you'd have to be careful to avoid pinching the chip in two.

One thing I've never gotten used to is metallic chopsticks like Koreans tend to use. They seem to have less grip than even cheap untextured plastic sticks. Pretty sure you get used to them, but if you're learning textured wooden ones are probably the best to start with.

I have dysgraphia, and I'll get welts on my hand if I use the proper way. It doesn't even improve my handwriting.
It's not that my fingers are weak so much as I only have decent force control if I'm focusing on the individual fingers, so the pencil/pen is digging in. Bad wiring I guess.

It's one tool for everything, all you need are chopsticks for most asian foods. You drink soup from the bowl. Use your fuckin brain for a change

>> No.16406578

The only acceptable time to use chopsticks is when you go to an asian restaurant. Any other time you look like a pretentious faggot.

Metal chopsticks are a fucking meme. They're slippery, the weight is never right and they feel uncomfortable when they warm up to your hands. Fuck these things. Give me wood or polycarbonate any other day.

Regarding metallic chopsticks usage in Korea, I asked a friend on the matter.
Take it with whatever grain of salt you normally take.

The problem with Korean chopsticks is not that they are metal but that they often have a rectangular cross section where you grip them. The fuckers are very uncomfortable to use unlike square and circle cross sectioned ones seen everywhere else.

You are a retard, but there is one thing about asian eating utensils that I never understood. These thick, heavy spoons are so fucking hard to eat with, I hate it. Some are even deeper than pic related, it's difficult to shovel the broth and equally difficult to shove it in your mouth without annoying slurping and spilling it all over the place. Am I doing something wrong?

I am not fat, I was exaggerating. Sipping broth off these spoons is sloppy and you usually must keep them at a specific angle to not spill it all to the sides.
>>16410856
Sure, but in Europe this type of spoon is a gimmick and we have different types of spoons that work wonders. This is not the case of chopsticks serving a different purpose to let's say a fork, it's a literal worse kind of spoon.
