It's just the amount of oil the use when they cook it. I make movie theater popcorn at home, and the secret is a fuck ton of a neutral tasting oil when you pop it.

they pop dried kernels into popcorn so yeah.
you just wont really get that greasy popcorn taste.

i like popcorn when i pop one into a bowl of ghee. then i scoop it out and generously recover it with morton salt. alternatively, the pre-made popcorn that is absolutely caked in cheddar-like "stuff". hominy or indinan soggy popped corn is absolutely disgusting. unless covered in flamin hot cheeto dust.

I took the flavacol and coconut oil pill recently, it's really fucking good. Just need to find the right BUTTER FLAVORED FLAVORING PRODUCT to accompany it
