I prepped pretty hard February 2020 in anticipation of COVID. I'm now consuming the non-perishables with approaching expiry dates.

With everything going on in terms of shortages, supply chain issues and inflation I'm wondering if we'll start seeing the real consumer issues coming up. Food prices are increasing fast in Canada. I don't know what things will be like one year from now but I'm concerned about the economy, inflation and other implications that will probably make people more accepting of a Great Reset.

Life is certainly interesting lately.

That is their goal. The only way to make people happy to own nothing and eat nutrient paste and water instead of steak and whiskey will be to make it so that no one can afford the food due to scarcit and to raise taxes to the point where people cannot afford upkeep on their property..

We had an early election in Canada this week and the voter turnout was a historical low and the outcome was almost exactly the same as the last election. So even after COVID, fucked up response, life getting too expensive and all that people STILL want the status quo.

I think you're right and that things will get worse and then they can wave their little globalist solution in front of us and we'll be clawing at it. All so we can "go back to normal" even though they straight up told us that we're never going back to normal and instead have the "new normal" to look forward too.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but it's obvious there is a paradigm shift occurring. This isn't like H1N1 where life got back to normal a year or so later. The rich are getting vastly richer and the middle class are being squeezed dry and we're all kept busy and distracted with identity politics. It's pretty fucked up.

>> No.16741530

>>16741443
>That is their goal.
More so the result of interdependent actors with competing interests operating at different levels in an increasingly, egregiously optimized supply chain.
A lot of the shortage fuckery that has occurred was a symptomatic display of the fragility of how businesses conduct themselves, how little they kept in surplus/storage (waste of space and capital), how little they concerned themselves with the actions/procedures of other actors in their chain beyond receiving required materials, and the lack of contingency plans in case of a supply chain distortion as if it wasn't a reasonable possibility.
The restrictions in 2020 (just assume I agree with how you label it, not the point) were a large enough spanner to show how disordered the works truly are.

And if those actors think they can get by or gain influence in this system, or work into a new system, I doubt they actually care much about whether you're happy to do X only to the extent as it doesn't get in the way of their existence, or preferably enables. You're putting a whole lot more faith in the people who are trying to take X away from you than the people who are trying to make a buck selling X to you.

You’re right to some extent but it has more to do with the fragility of supply chains. Things have to move from country to country now before they arrive at your store or doorstep, so anything that messes with that hurts us all because nothing is made in America anymore. Shortages are a symptom of global trade if any pressure is given. Our economy is a paper tiger. People think the going is good until one day they wake up and half of their grocery stores are empty and barren. Politicians can try and slow it down all they want, but the reaper will catch up to them.
>>16742108
You don’t get it. When an empire collapses, assets and their value mean nothing. It’s not just ‘hard times’ like 2008. There is a global power shift occurring right before our eyes this year. There is a solid chance that if the economy really sheds its skin and countries start attempting to hoard precious metals, that there could be countries which cease to exist. If these supply shortages last long enough, if people stop spending their money, there will be no local production to rely on. We may be standing on the cliff of mass starvation and half of the population isn’t even aware. They’re just sleepwalking through time.

Not him, but even for privately owned companies which are effectively controlled by one individual, that would be the capitalistic equivalent of nature abhorring a vacuum. It would only last as long as they willingly maintained the position of both not selling out or making use of the company's assets.
Unless it's almost all toxic (and can't be spun off), either agents within the company or outside the company will inherently try to, well, capitalize upon the assets that company owns.

So generally speaking production halts either only when it incurs a net loss, the net gain is not worthwhile to continue, or the materials and means of production have been made unviable by external events.

Fair, and also pretty boring. It's probably annoying because I do three things in semi-serious replies:
1. Split hairs until I feel the post is not hyperbolic and is grounded in reality.
2. Consider the lowest-effort gotchas and preempt them in the post.
3. Give enough explanation/argument that it would convince myself.

It's pretty defensive writing that requires significantly more fucks than usual to give a similarly serious response to.
Might seem dumb/pointless/cringe to many anons, but it's a good way to get interesting, original replies that make me reconsider my thoughts and continue the discussion, and not get replies with a one-liner hot take I've heard a thousand times, are intentionally irrelevant, etc.
Those don't upset me, been here too long for that, they just disappoint me because I don't get anything out of them and they are usually optimized to derail or shutdown discussion.

Saying my style is annoying is actually saying what (You) personally think, so I appreciate it.

I try to be transparent. It's an anonymous imageboard and I do not have much to hide. It's not an insult to me unless you suspect I'm trying not to be transparent and failing at it.

I most certainly lack self-awareness in many aspects, but unless you specify what you see me lacking from this conversation, I don't see how you expect me to reconsider it.
As this is already off-topic from liquor, I'll stop responding to replies unless you clarify on those points.

Most alcoholics won't consume hard seltzer, and neither will big strong masculine beer drinkers. A lot of people tell me seltzers are for faggots and women, but I guess if we run out of hard liquor or manly beer then they might not have a choice but to drink/buy seltzer.

I bought white claw seltzer because of this thread, never heard of alcoholic seltzer before, and it was good. Just an innocuous vehicle for alcohol and I really like carbonated water anyway so I see the appeal. It would be a nice drink on a hot day.

I mean to an extent you aren't wrong, but
>there are supply chain issues because the government said "shut down fucking everything for like 3 months dude, it'll be fine trust me" and surprisingly it was not fine
Doesn't really indicate to me that the supply chain being too optimized was the main issue. Could suppliers and manufacturers have been smarter and can they learn a lot about how to avoid big issues in the future? Sure, but the amount of pre-planning and foresight that would have been needed to avoid the current problems with the way things were handled by government bodies would have been frankly insane.

>Stop buying liquor at 9:00 in the morning.
Morning hours are the best time to shop in general. Lines are short, and I can cross any street without having to wait for cars.
Honestly, when you think about it it's kinda weird that motorists always get right of way over people wanting to cross, and everyone just accepts it. Just because they own or have borrowed a car? Unless you're carrying heavy things with you, there's basically no reason to use a car inside a city.

>> No.16753407

>>16753374
It wasn't always like this. Pedestrians used to have the right of way at all times, but that made it hard to sell cars to city dwellers so the the automotive industry lobbied governments to give right of way to cars and ran a smear campaign against ordinary people; even the term "jaywalking" is propaganda, a "country jay" is old timey slang for ignorant redneck, charging someone for jaywalking is basically calling them too stupid and backwards to know how to behave around cars.
