I forgot to mention the seafood. Some seafood is fine due to flash freezing, fish farms and river fish but there's also lots of seafood that never makes it that far inland. I've had family that moved out of California to other states and they mentioned produce being poorer quality due to transport. I live rather close to some farms here in California and the quality of the fresh produce can be really amazing, the weather has (mostly) been OK for growing things too. My mom is really into gardening and she's able to grow lots of different things. I'm not sure how successful she would be at growing papaya, avocado, pomegranate, lemons, oranges, figs, tomatoes or nectarines outside of her area.
