16906168 No.16906168 [Reply] [Original]

I know its pathetic, but I'm starving because I can't think of what I want to eat. Anyone have some suggestions?

I have Crohn's disease so there are some constraints
>no fiberous veggies (lettuce, pepper, onion, etc)
>little to no meat preferred
>no dairy (a bit of cheese is ok)
>no legumes or whole wheat

Thanks in advance

Is it the lactose? I had the same issue but lactose free yogurt is fine for me. It's hard to find but if you have an instapot you can trivially make it from lactose-free milk and any safe powdered starter. It's even simpler than regular milk because you can skip the boil step as all lactose-free milk is UHT. Realistically you could use a tiny amount of plain yogurt instead of sourcing starter but you might want the piece of mind of knowing there's not even a trace amount of lactose in it.

For another fermented option consider miso. Miso paste is soy but very low in oligos so it's safe for fodmaps. At minimum you can do just dashi miso with wakame and whatever noodles and vegetables you can handle, all of those things are easy on the stomach, it's probiotic and the warm soup is soothing. It's one of the few soup options that doesn't demand onions or garlic.

Good luck anon, I also have gut issues but thankfully meat is fine, I eat so much fucking meat.

crohns is an autoimmune disorder where your immune system decides that the xyz part of your gut is the enemy and attacks it. While there is a genetic component to it, there is also an epigenetic element and all of us are potentially one misfolded protein away from an immune system mistake that starts us on the autoimmune disorder quest line. While it is typically 'some' of the lining of your gut in 'some but not all' areas the potential breath of possible issues with crohns is what makes it so difficult/problematic to diagnose and recommend management for. Generally you've got issues like ...

Damage and scarring with strictures and fistulas within the intestines fucking you up if you eat fibre and shit with a lot of 'residue'.

Damage and scarring leading to incomplete digestion and absorption of food making your shit all fucked up, your gut biome all fucked up leading to nutritional deficiencies.

Depression, anxiety, tiredness, low mood, isolation, lack of engagement, body image problems, tension etc due to problems shitting, problems leaving the house, working, eating, exercising, relating to others, having normal relationships, shitting yourself, farting a lot etc.

>> No.16907453

>>16907419
(cont)

Depending on age, lifestyle and 'genetics' at presentation all these issues can be present and advanced to various degrees with further logical complications. Typically a guy in his 20's complaining of stomach pain and trouble shitting, unable to fully evacuate their bowels or taking ages, having to go a lot with a 'fussy' restrictive diet being giving shit by his friends and family, but despite trying everything it is still impacting on his ability to function normally in life. Maybe a B12 deficiency, maybe underweight, maybe smokes a lot of weed because it helps relieve it somewhat. Usually haemorrhoids/ass issues from wiping and straining and sitting too long too.

What do?

Go on a basic/elemental (if needed) diet while assessing the current extent of damage. Colonoscopy from above and behind to assess any strictures and fistulas. Blood tests to ascertain nutritional deficiencies. Immunosuppressants. Steroids. Potentially surgery.

Usually you get this powder shit to drink daily which lines the gut somewhat to help protect it and the damaged areas. You'll inject immunosuppressants to stop your body causing further damage and you may need surgery to remove areas which are too damaged and potentially causing blockages. You'll need to avoid fibrous foods which can cause pain/blockages. You'll likely need B12 injections at very least and be mindful of issues absorbing dairy, fat and liquid overall are common due to the start of the small intestine (absorbs fat and B12, having is pass through gives loose stools) and the end of the large intestine (absorbs water, prevents loose stools) being common areas for damage.

Stop smoking. Nicotine makes the damage a lot worse, something to do with receptors. Stop drinking caffeine. It makes the bowel move and contract and it'll make it worse and make your already fucked shitting worse and more unpredictable.

>> No.16907480

>>16907453
Also start thinking of your issue and disability as a holistic part of your overall life and lifestyle and make up. It can be difficult for a young guy to be informed he has this sort of shit. You get a lot of stress, anxiety, shit from other guys, bad advice and information. Basically don't disregard the mind/body connection and your mental health because the gut is really linked to your brain and digestive issues and stomach problems can be made worse by having bad mental health. Unfortunately being told you have a condition, a disabling disability and a lifelong issue which will shorten your life and make things shitty is kind of bad and a lot of younger guys deal with it badly. It takes them a long time to get out of this "I want to die anyway what is the point I don't care I'm indestructible" mindset and by the time they wake up and say ... "shit I need to sort myself out I don't want to die and I am in so much pain now" the damage is a lot worse than it needed to be because they didn't get it under control years ago.

Stop smoking. Cut down your alcohol consumption. Fix your diet. Get your nutritional deficiencies resolved. Implement pain management. Structure your life to accept your diagnosis and live within the limits of what will be a lifelong condition. Take your medication. Otherwise in 10 years you'll need major surgery, potentially never eat normal food again, have to take pain medication and have a shit bag for life at 35 which is a way worse starting off point to accepting your issues.

>> No.16907496

I'm not OP though. Besides breakfast, I am unsure if the rest makes me sick. I'm still trying to find a good lunch/dinner meal.

Blueberries I know for sure are OK. Tomatoes I think they are fine with me, I eat a lot of pasta and pizza so it should be ok. Kale on the other hand may be a hit or miss, its something I am incorporating into my diet recently.

I don't understand this. Remicade is a life line. Why would they do this? What are you taking now?

Also what's the B12 for? Are you just deficient in it? Vitamins are pretty cheap, why not just by them at a store? They're cheaper that way, at least for the Folic Acid I was prescribed to take with Methotrexate.

Make jook, soothing and gentle. Boil a half cup of rice in a ton of water, like ten cups, add some slices of ginger and a bit of chicken, pull the chicken when it's done and shred it back in at the end. Whisk it if you want it more porridgey.

Try getting silken or soft tofu and using it like yogurt, add some granola honey and berries. Or put a dash of soy sauce and chili oil if you want savory

thank you.

>Jook
saw that in thailand at the breakfast cafe, they were calling it something else though. Didn't consider trying it cus, I mean, c'mon, they had literally everything you could think of at the breakfast buffet within the 5 start hotel I stayed at. French toast, fruit of any kind, fresh coconut water from real coconuts, meat platters, eggs and bacon made by wagies to your liking, noodle dished, a table of carbs with every type of bread, and cinnamon raisin egg toast casserole etc. etc. etc. etc. I didn't have Crohn's back then either. With that said, the LAST thing I was gonna try was going to be JOOK.

I feel like this is something invented by fat people.

Congee I'm guessing. I definitely think of it as a food you have when you're not feeling great rather than a particularly exciting breakfast dish. That said you can go nuts with the toppings if you want.

>have UC flare up
>don't really notice different reactions to particular food, apparently only the amount matters to me (more food eaten = worse)
>usually love cooking and eating healthy stuff
>can't do it because I'd be overburdening my already malfunctioning digestion with vegetables, which won't even give me the required calories I need to function
>end up eating mostly calorie dense food (which apart from nuts happens to be unhealthy shit without nutrients)
>the little nutrients I can get, I keep shitting out before processing anyway
>studies imply that a high protein diet seems to worsen symptoms
