It's "original" american food, EU's took all the native food in the americas and incorporated it into their cuisine and since most americans come from EU they will be making their own versions of that food. So it's to similar to EU food which is based on colony food.

So Spaghetti and Meat Balls, 100% american, German chocolate cake 100% american, s'mores, chocolate chip cookies, lobster rolls, peanut butter and jelly, brownies, gumbo, spanish rice, hot dogs, buffalo wings, chili, macaroni and cheese, various american BBQ's, clam chowder, Pizza, hamburgers, tex mex, coke, pepsi, zucchini bread, gingerbread, southern biscuits, red velvet cake, pound cake, peanut brittle, snow cones, key lime pie, fritters, crab cakes, apple butter, deviled eggs, grits, tomato soup, baked beans, mustard greens, etc

and when it's not that shit, it's shit based on EU concepts like a pot roast or various casseroles.

Fuck yea, there is great strength in diversity.

About your culinary examples: That's why Americans are so fat, because we have so much cuisine. There's Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Indian, etc. food all on the same block. It's impossible to get tired of the food.

Whereas people in China only have Chinese food, people in Mexico only Mexican, etc. If you ate Chinese food 3 days in a row, if someone offered you some Lo Mein on day 4 you might say "No thanks, I don't feel for Chinese food today." That's why they're all so skinny.

really depends on who makes it, a lot of the popular place in Philly are tourist meme garbage and not a cheese steak absolutely should not have cheese wiz on it, it should be provolone (or deli American cheese in a pinch) , meat, onions and a hoagie roll (peppers or mushrooms are forgivable offenses)
I can't even find a pic of one that's not blasphemy

It's not soot. That's "bark", the caramelized covering that brisket is known for. You smoke brisket for a very long time while covering it in "mop", a very thin barbecue sauce with some sugar content every 30 mins or so and each layer accretes onto the outside to ensure that it cooks in an even amount all the way through. Said "bark", when removed (with the meat), is called "burnt ends" (because it looks burnt) and is widely regarded as the best part of the brisket; the section where he cuts just the end of a piece of brisket and chops it into chunks is specifically for said burnt ends. However, this covering is naturally somewhat brittle and rough so some pieces fall off when cutting, and will naturally fall onto the cutting table.

Then we're talking about something different, retard lol. Barbecuing is specifically NOT roasting something over a fire, which would cook it way too fast and burn it. You have the fire in a separate compartment and funnel the smoke into the cooking chamber and use the heat of the smoke to cook the food and the aroma of the smoke to flavor it. That's why we focus so much on the type of wood - mesquite, hickory, applewood, maple, etc - because it's far more pronounced than in traditional smoking (or roasting) techniques and becomes a prominent flavor in the dish.

>>17069629
As I said above, it's not burning. To be honest, caramelization isn't the right word, but I'm not sure what else you would call the sugars in the honey in the sauce being warmed such that it congeals into part of the bark.

The term "barbecue" itself was invented by Americans, based on the mexican-spanish word "barbacoa" which itself is derived from a native word for roasting a pig in a pit in the ground. The mexicans used it to mean cooking something slowly. The methodology is different compared to the rest of the world, and the things smoked are different, including the preparation of any different constituent ingredients. It is entirely invented in the south by people native to the south after the formation of the United States and subsequent formation of a unified Southern culture as a subset of American culture. The cladistics of this are so far derived from anything anywhere else in the world that to argue it is anything other than a native cuisine would be delusion.

Wikipedia conflates different meanings of the word together because most people are ignorant of the practice, like you. What happened was southern barbecue was invented, very derived from other methods and recipes, and other people starting calling poor imitations "barbecue" because they didn't know about the real thing. That's why yankees call cookouts barbecue and aussies call braai barbie. There's nothing really wrong with adopting a word in this manner, but it doesn't mean that the original barbecue is suddenly some variation of an established idea. Instead, it means that this idea was simply succesful enough that the term was adopted to mean other things, eventually. Imagine if I was trying to argue with you that shishkebabs weren't a dish from the near-east because greek had gyros which some people call kebabs. That's how you sound.

Barbacoa, the origin of the word, refers to slow cooking meat. It doesn't even refer to smoking it - barbacoa is typically cooked in a dutch oven or crock pot. Barbecue isn't exclusively about the process of smoking meat, and barbecuing is distinct from just smoking it. You yourself defined it incorrectly earlier. Southerners invented it and other people took the term to mean other things. As stated earlier, that does not make it a variation of other things, that makes other things a variation of it.

You know, I'm beginning to think you're merely pretending.
