Oh man, when I was stationed in Sicily the pizzas there were divine. It's a different type of pizza. Both are great, but I appreciated the Sicilian one more to this day. I didn't do Margherita, I preferred a spicy salami one.

One can make all kinds of pizza well, and all kinds of pizza poorly. But I have to say - most of the italian style pizza I have eaten was made well - even though getting the dough crust right must be really hard. And most of the american style pizza I've eaten was mediocre.
