this is the right answer. A&W and Burger King completely misunderstood why McDonalds became such a dominant brand. it wasn't because of the size of the burger, or the amazing quality of their food, but because of the consistency of the experience that McDonalds provided. their stores were (at the time, haven't been in decades) always spotlessly clean, and you could be guaranteed that the fries and burgers etc were identical in quality at any McDonalds in the world, any time of the day, and everybody in the family could get their favorite McDonald's meal with or without happy meal trinkets.

>> No.17514602

>>17514356
>the consistency of the experience that McDonalds provided
Even Julia Child referred to this. When she was traveling on a timetable and unsure about local restaurants, she always chose to get a quarter pounder at McD's because she knew what to expect and she knew the standards they were expected to maintain. It wasn't gourmet food, but it was good for what it was, fast food.

The Imperial system like the Imperial Roman one, uses fractions based on 12 a lot. Because 12 can be divided by 2,3,4,6. Ancient societies often used 12 and 16, they can both be divided by 4 and 2, and 16 can be divided by powers of 2.

Yes, but apparently we're kinda rare.
Television is such a mind controlling force here, I've visited friends with whom I used to cook with for dinner parties, and was shocked to find that the go-to for them these days is either fast food, or processed, prepack garbage while they watch cooking shows/food pr0n.
My parents STILL get mad at me when visiting, when I tell them I won't eat their seed oil, corn syruped, GMO, sucralose/aspartame laden garbage.(This has been the case for 20+ years--NOT BREAKING NEWS. )
Both are retarded fucking boomers though, so of course, they don't want to hear WHY.

In all states except South Australia, a pint is legally classified as 570ml. Which is the metric translation of the commonwealth pint. South Australia has a different pint because of alcohol laws that date back to the 1890s, and has nothing to do with metrication. You’re ordering an imperial size.
>it’s just easier to use the traditional name
Which is the crux of the image you were originally responding to. Rounded metric measure is clunky for day-to-day use, because metric wasn’t invented by tradesmen or other working-class folk. It was invented by pseudointellectuals dictating from on high about what they thought would be best for the peasantry.

US cars have kmh in a smaller inner ring because we were originally planning on switching to metric in the 1970s. So the government passed a law that all cars needed to have both measurements, in anticipation of the widespread rollout of metric speed signs. Of course there was such massive public pushback against metrication that it never happened, but the law for speedometers having both units was never rescinded. It should be noted that the UK never changed their road signs over from miles post-metricization like most Commonwealth countries did, much for the same reason the US never went through. The UK system of roads can get horribly convoluted in some places, much like the US. Changing ALL the signs was seen as a hassle for a nation that was well used to the old style. Other changes like those in product labelling were seen as a lot easier, and matched up with the standards in most European countries at the time.

The little side story about the 500ml beer in 1984 was worldbuilding to show that in a socialist future, all vestiges of tradition and cultural identity would be erased specifically so people would no longer have a connection to the past. It’s the same reason the Party invented Newspeak. 1984 is filled with stuff like this; it’s not an argument about the abstract merits of metric vs imperial, it’s about culture. Orwell was alluding to how the Bolsheviks forcibly converted Russia to the metric system so as to divorce the Russians from their pre-communist history.

Me alluding to it in my earlier post was a social commentary on how Australia is going down the same path of divorcing the Australian public from their anglo ancestry, in a bid to make the country a cosmopolitan “multicultural utopia”.

Both metric and volumetric(burgers) have their place in cooking. No one is measuring spices by gram, everyone uses a teaspoon. For baking where measurements are more important metric makes sense.

What would you even call a quarter pounder in metric? A 125 gramer? Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

>> No.17532634

Fun Fact: in 1975, your american president gerald ford passed an act of law to make metric system the official system in the US. But so many kids failed to adopt and schools accused the metric system of being racist and particularly unfair to blacks that the law was eventually overturned.

It's an objectively awful name. So are Big Mac and McChicken. They only sound right to you due to saturation. Quarter Pounders don't even weigh a quarter pound.

>Quarter Pounders don't even weigh a quarter pound.
No cooked item is going to predictably weigh something you autist. The more you cook it, the more fat and moisture it loses, and shrinks. That's why the precooked patties were above 4 ozs even in 2015, because they came out smaller than people liked and in the 2.5-2.6 oz weight range post cooking.
