I know this is going to blow some minds here, but very few things are actually /ck/ reposted repost levels of black and white. Sometimes, when you move past prejudice and expectation, a near-frozen American/Mexican lager is exactly what the body needs. Sometimes it's a C(e n)'est pas la Fin du Monde.

To go back to the OP's question - if you're going for Trappist flavours, your best bets are mostly Trappist (entirely import now that St. Joe's is closed, I believe) - Unibroue does well in the style; and a bunch of breweries will make wheat beer or convincing dubbels or tripels... BUT... are you looking specifically for a Belgian-styled beer? There are a handful of stouts, Baltic porters, IPAs and one or two pale lagers that I'd put up against Bernie any day, but how you'll enjoy them depends entirely on your preferences.

Yes, normal people prefer sweet things to bitter things.
Humans are programmed to crave and gorge on sweet things because, pre-agriculture, they were hard to come by.
Humans are programmed to reject bitter flavors because toxins are bitter.
IPAs are the ultra hot pepper extract hot sauces of the beer world. "Macho" fucks compensating for their low T gravitate towards them because they're an objectively unpleasant experience and it makes them "manly" to pretend to enjoy them.

The stereotypical IPA is American - West Coast/Yakima Valley. The sub-stereotype is New England IPA.

There's a lot more to German beer than cloudy wheat beer. They usually aim for something much more balanced with a short aftertaste. Wheat beer in general is more of an exception in German brewing.

1. bock beers' ABV are lower (6%-7%)
2. less sweet

Unibroue's stuff is widely available and good.
Gulden Draak is good... but the cost is just as bad.

Now my personal suggestion is this one. Boulevard's Sixth Glass. Good beer, good price.
This is a great go-to brewery for all high-alcohol styles.

Yeah I'd agree with that desu, and sooner or later that's where we're headed. Us southerners have hardly anything in common with new England or California/pnw faggots anymore. Most of the Midwest can stay with us. Except Illinois and the southern peninsula of Michigan, fuck them.

Good recommendation, never seen it down here though. I'll have to look a little for it.

Looks incredible. Too bad I'll probably never get to try it. How much does a bottle go for in Germany? I'd pay at least 20 leafbucks to try it.
