Yes, their retarded work laws and spineless workers unable to form a union makes it so I, the customer have to be their temp employee.

In Europe I think I'm going to stop after finding out just how much they make. Assuming the are getting around minimum wage, let's say £10 an hour. And also making a an unrealisticly low £100 a night from tips.

They are making £400 a week plus £500. They are making well over 45k a year and half of it isn't taxable. Maybe the place they work out is gay and puts the tips towards a Christmas party, in that case simply change restuant.

I can't in good faith support someone who's already making 45k a year in handouts, more so when let's say a 10% of a £100 meal is costing me about £10 for thirty minuits of their labour at most. So I'm paying them £20 an hour for, waiting tables.

Scot anon here. I generally tip 10%, most I have tipped is 20% in a few Michelin star places where the service was exceptional. I stopped tipping delivery drivers though when payment by card became so ubiquitous. I still tip taxi drivers but generally just round up.

I like going to places where tipping is not the norm though like Genoa in Italy. I had a three course meal that was €21, I tried to give €25 but they actually just rounded it down to €20. Very nice of them.

£100 a night in tips is insanely high. Most people in this country simply do not tip at all, and almost all restaurants will have a tip sharing agreement that the house takes a slice of and is shared equally so even good servers only get the average. You may also be taxed on it if the house takes the tips and you get a bonus in your pay packet.

Yes. I always tip all change that can't be expressed in quarters (I like to keep quarters) plus one dollar. Most people I know, even though I live in the US, don't tip at all, because we're neither rich nor retired. If I eat out with them, I end up tipping for them. (One dollar per person)
The idea of tips is that they're used just to get the staff a drink or a candy bar, for exemplary service. They shouldn't be required for life.

yeah i tip. i used to deliver and work the counter at a pizzeria. usually give counter people a dollar and change if there's any. drivers get 7 dollars unless they fuck up.

on one occasion a counter person went to hand me a 5 dollar bill as change but then put it back in the register and handed me 5 singles, i assume because he wanted me to put a dollar in the tip cup. that was offputting and i didn't give him anything

I tip every single time it's expected. I started when I was 18 and I'm 30 now. I've only missed two times, and both times the service was so egregious that I just walked out without paying so idk if that counts. I mostly try to keep it above 15%, and I'll do way more if it's someone who specifically works for me, like the guy who mowes my lawn, or the movers, or the guy who mounted my TV, and I'll try and give an extra big tip.

Bong ex-waiter again here. I would probably get tipped about twice a night, usually about £10, and it went into a big staff kitty. Other staff were on you like hawks in case you were pocketing tips instead of putting them in the fishbowl. I did see someone being dismissed for it.
End of the night the manager would cash up the tips and it'd come back to you in your pay packet, subject to tax, etc. At about the end of the time I was waiting tables (uni) chip and pin readers were becoming more popular and it felt like in six months we went from no cards to all cards. Tipping immediately dropped to zero. At the time I left, the company were introducing a service charge of about 15% and were telling staff they were to refuse any gratuity in cash.
