Why are tomatoes and pickles controversial toppings on hamburgers and sandwiches

>> No.19035456

For retarded people they are. But we don't use the word retarded nowadays, we just call them tastelets.

because zoomers hate the time-honored tradition of getting a "The Works" burger from their locally-owned pub or gas station
instead they'd rather get imitation McSlop from their cityfag fast food chains

The only thing wrong with that burger is the pickled beets.

Nigger they aren't, they're the default. Stop shitting on me just because I don't like the taste of pickles and stop forcing them on every burger I order even if I specify "no pickles" I have to toss the damn burger because that disgusting taste gets soaked into the burger anyway

i typically prefer the simpler bun/cheese/meat but recently i've been craving everything on them.

They're the whores of the kitchen. They don't care you're with your wife and going to church. They're going to ask you if you wanna. And say what's the matter? You liked it last week, didn't you? Just to spite-ruin a lovely Sunday morning with the family.

Tomatoes and lettuce are controversial because old-fashioned burgers didn't have those things (fresh tomatoes in particular weren't widely available for most of the year in the Northeast and Midwest before the '60s). It was Californian joints like Bob's Big Boy that started the fashion of putting salad on a burger.

Personally, I don't have a problem with this. I can eat a burger with "the works" (if the tomatoes and lettuce are good quality) or one with nothing but onions. I certainly prefer the latter to brown, wilted lettuce and flavorless tomatoes. I don't understand the attitude that a good burger *must* have a shitload of toppings, but it's also stupid to make a stink about a style of burger that's been around since the '30s at this point, just because it's currently in vogue to hate California.

Pickles, OTOH, have been around pretty much from the beginning, just like onions. Fairly sure they were being put on burgers even before cheese. The only thing that changed is that now you can buy them pre-sliced (not actually an improvement, IMO, as the texture and flavor of pre-cut spears and "hamburger slices" are decidedly inferior to a freshly-cut whole pickle). I wasn't aware that there was any controversy with them. Maybe it's people wanting the pickle served on the side, which I'd agree should be an option (another reason for buying whole pickles and cutting them as wanted).

the last one is a fried egg, which can be hit or miss on a burger.

All vegetables of every kind ruin the texture of sandwiches and burgers, even if they don't have too much moisture. I don't want a bitter stem in the middle of my bite of meat. If I want the tang of tomato, I'll add sauce.

Sandwiches of any kind should be eaten with the salad on the side, and just skip the veggies for fast food and have extra salad with dinner when you get home
