I have a chevy express cargo van with a mini fridge and 2nd battery installed. stocked it full of cheese, steak, biltong, fruit, juice, coconut water and had a nice loaf of bread for a recent road trip. I also sewed custom blackout curtains that conceal the entire back area where my dogs were laying, so I would park alongside nicer looking gas stations and just have picnics with my them while peeking underneath the curtains to spy on people at the pumps. left the ac and music running and just had a real cozy time eatin in my beanbag chair back there.

I bought my first new car in 2016, and in these 7 years, I have never once eaten/allowed eating in my car, and the only drinks I allow are water. The interior of my car looks almost brand new when I vacuum the floors of leaves and dirt; this should help with eventual resale value. One of my friends is fat and he loses his shit every time I don't let him peck at his fries when we're on the way back from getting drive thru/open up a box of candy/drink soda in my car, but idgaf. I can potentially sell my car for more, and what do I lose, the ability to sometimes eat in my car, grease stains all over the place, and forgotten candy fused to the crevice between the seat and middle console? I am definitely buying the 4Runner, the only bad thing about it is it has the 3.4 V6 which is infamous for eating head gaskets but it only has about 140k on it and is still doing good so here's hoping.
Good on you for keeping the 6 in the CJ, as boomers say they are indestructible. My trugg still has the original 300, it was used and abused as a firewood truck for decades and had gas in the crankcase when I bought it but it's still going strong.

>> No.20042172

The one in that pic is a 5fzfe and it had 340,000 miles when I sold it. Original engine internals....Do the timing unless he can prove it was already done and you can drive it until gasoline runs out.
Your truck is fucking awesome...they salt to much where I'm at for any "used and abused" truck to even exist if it happened to be made before 2004. That's actual patina, not rust that a boomer thinks he can trick you over...
There's nothing indestructible about the 4.0/4.2, they're tough but toyota stuff is generally tougher. The thing about them is that they were manufactured with almost no changes for like 40 fucking years, so parts are ubiquitous and any newcomer can do literally 95% of maintenance on them with nothing but youtube and some common tools.

My buddy bought it from a boomer that did a bunch of work to it and kept receipts so I know the timing belt has been done among other things. He's had issues with the PS pump but I think it was the shop he was taking it to. It does have a bad rear main seal though so it uses oil but it's not worth it to pull the engine for that imo, unless it has to come out anyway for a head gasket.
I'm jealous of the Land Cruiser though those are sweet and hard to find for a reasonable price anymore. One of my dream cars is a mid 80s Wagoneer with wood paneling, old luxury 4x4 SUVs give me a hardon.
Thanks for that, salt is a bitch. We salt roads here too but the old timer I got it from must have never driven it in winter, the only cancer it has are the little spots in the front quarter panels which always go on old cars. The floor pans still have the factory red primer on the underside, it's incredible. Benefits of living in a high desert I guess.

>> No.20042230

>>20042221
I did the ps in mine 2 or 3 years before I sold it...it's an hour or two job. The LC leaks a drip AND uses some and has since I bought it from a kohls parking lot in 2021....its no biggie. Just keep a few quarts in the back and remember to check it once a week or every other. The original stereo in that truck may be the coolest thing about it. The og was ripped out of my cj when I bought it. There are companies that make bluetooth versions of old head units, but they cost half as much as the jeep did.

Yeah leaks and checking fluids are just part of having old cars. My friend isn't very technically inclined so he paid two shops to do the PS right even though it's not that hard. Good thing is he's paranoid so any issues it has had have been looked at by mechanics, one of the shops is one I'm familiar with and they do solid work.
Lol the radio... it does work but the antenna was snapped off years ago so if you put your finger on the stub then it comes in loud and clear. I was going to replace it but realized the cable is part of the antenna assembly on those trucks so I would have to run the new cable through the dash and realized it just isn't worth it for me to be able to listen to the 5 religious talk radio stations that still come in on AM here. Besides the thing with old cars is I'm too busy constantly listening for sounds of catastrophic failure to listen to music.
This was my last shitbox, it had an 8 track player when I bought it. Never got it to work though I would have loved to listen to the Jethro Tull 8 track I had which was also the only one I had

Nip autos are pretty good. The 97 4R (pictured earlier in this thread) had over 340k on the original transmission and the fj80 (also pictured earlier) is at 307 right now. The AW4 is just a toyota trans that got shoved in the xj's.
