How to make steak more flavorful? I’ve tried it the recommended way of just using salt and pepper, then basting it with butter, garlic and maybe some thyme. But the steak still ends up tasting so plain. What else can I put on it to give it actual flavor? And before anyone points it out, yes I am using good quality cuts from a local butcher.

I make a marinade out of soy sauce, garlic, yellow onion, and butter. Sear it in one pan, simmer it in another. Add marinade as it cooks, then toss in s I me chopped Cabbage or broccoli once it's almost don't to cook up in the now gravy in the pan. Serve over rice and top with the gravy. Works great for both tuna and beef steaks.

Would this work for, say, a ribeye or New York strip? The issue of lack of flavor I have is typically with thicker cuts. It seems all the flavor is just limited to the outer surface, and 90% of the meat which is inside just tastes like nothing because whatever marinade or seasoning I use does not penetrate far enough

It's not going to penetrate to the centre. It shouldn't have to. You have a top surface and a bottom surface in every bite.

Yeah so to make up for the lack of flavor inside the steak, I’m looking for ways to compensate by having even more flavor on the outside. Simply putting salt and pepper, garlic and butter isn’t cutting it

Try more salt than you've been using and put some vinegar in the marinade. As for spices, anything works except maybe cinnamon and nutmeg which I've never tried but sounds gross.

Steak tastes like steak what you see is what you get, sure you can season it or even add a sauce but the steak flavor is too strong and will overpower anything else
