All you need to know is, American beer is like sex on the beach.

It's fucking close to water.

Step one: Learn the different styles
Step two: Learn what foods pair with each style

disagree with some of the food pairings but you would do well to memorize this for now and start getting a few samples from the bartender when you can so you really know what you're talking about when you recommend stuff. The better you know the beer and the food the better your tips.

Start drinking son. Seriously though, that chart is be a good place to start.

Good rules of thumb.
>Light flavored beers go with mild flavored dishes and deserts. Strong flavored beers go with strong dishes.
>Lighter colored beers are better tasting in summer/hot weather and darker beers in winter/cooler weather.
>Sweet beers are better with deserts, spicy food and dry cheeses, dry beers go better with heavy, cloying deserts, sweet/stinky cheeses and robust, flavorful dishes.

Ask me any questions you might have. I brew my own beer, cider and mead.

Most societies have libraries.

Don't become a beer snob for godsake. Do something more respectable and collect antique doorknobs.

>Don't become a beer snob

I've noticed that "beer snob" has become the pejorative appellation of choice for people who actually LIKE beer and know their shit. Wine snobs are "connoisseurs" and "patricians", yet knowledgeable beer drinkers are "plebeians" and "proles". WTF? Wine tastes like good juice gone bad to me. But just because I'm not a frog or some long lost son of Rome, is not reason for me to mock the wine aficionados. I LOVE beer. And be damned to you if you find that offensive.
