Hi /ck/, I'm wondering what you guys usually eat for breakfast, and if you have any ideas for an extremely healthy breakfast that can also be used as a staple breakfast (IE, cheap and quick enough to be made pretty much every morning). I'm getting kind of tired of eggs.

Everything in contest is...a contest entry, not exactly a staple meal. And are you suggesting that I subsist on canned coffee? Or that I go to /jp/ for some reason?

>> No.4311348

>>4311341
I don't think those entries are quite staple breakfasts you would want to eat every day that are good for your health.

I think oatmeal or any kind of porridge is a very easy, healthy, and fast thing to make.

Is it cost effective to make your own? I've heard of people making their own muesli and that looks very nutritious, though I wonder if it's significantly more expensive than prepared mixes.

most of the dishes were obviously cost efficient, some people made oatmeal (two or three i think) and they had great dishes...

did you read the thread anon?

I really have no idea what you're trying to say, with either of those responses. I read the thread and the vast majority of entries were extravagant, both nutritionally and in cost of ingredients and in time to prepare. I still have no idea what /jp/ has to do with anything.

What's wrong with cereal and fruit?

>> No.4311400

Not enough protein, unless you buy specialty cereals which can get pretty expensive.

If you're going to go all /fit/, then cereal and fruit and cottage cheese.

OP I don't know what they're all talking about either. Don't go to /jp/.

Healthy, cost effective breakfasts can't get much better than oatmeal. Just buy plain, off-brand rolled oats. Add bananas - they are very cheap and can be frozen and cooked in oats later on. You'll also probably want cinnamon which is a one time cost and shouldn't be too expensive. Finally, you'll want some source of fat/protein, and I'd suggest nuts. Buy raw almonds and toast them yourself in a pan. Or you can add peanut butter or almond butter if you prefer.

Hope I helped!

just because the meals were well prepared doesn't mean that the ingredients cost a lot of money.

seriously.

Oatmeal (porridge where i'm from) is very cheap to make. About 1/2 a mug of oats is a decent serving and you'll either mix it with milk, water or a mixture of the 2 (my favourite) then probably put some nuts/fruit/honey/whatever on top so you can work out the price from that. It's certainly a lot cheaper than buying readymade porridge or breakfast cereal.
I've not made muesli but you can just add up the price and weight of oats, raisins, nuts, etc. then compare it to the boxed equivilent. I reckon you'd save money and being able to tailor it to what you like is always nice.

Can you fuck off, holy shit. The purpose of those entries was not to provide a staple meal, it was to win a competition based on entirely different criteria.

I never considered cottage cheese, didn't know it was so high in protein. Thanks for the tip.
>>4311410
>>4311414
Yeah nuts in the oatmeal is pretty much key to the nutrition of the meal. I'll check out my local bulk supplier and see if I can get a couple week's worth of ingredients for an oatmeal at a decent price, including some almonds or something which can be kind of pricy.

You get them canned? How much are they? Sounds like a good idea though, I've wanted to start eating fish for breakfast for the protein+unsaturated fats but fresh fish is too expensive.

Nah they come in vacuum packed plastic usually with about 3 fish. You can find it everywhere in the UK. Not sure about elsewhere.

1/4 steel cut oats with some crushed walnuts
1 poached egg
1 biscuit, half w/ peanut butter, put egg on other half

When I don't have biscuits I make more. If I've been lazy and haven't made more then I use a slice of ancient grain bread and softboil the egg.
