Bought some fruit pies recently. The crusts are terrible now. Are they supposed to be wheat? When did this happen?

It's just dumb nostalgia bro, they were never any good at all. It's just one of those things you allegedly remember tasting good as a kid, but you go to try them later and they actually taste awful even if the recipe didn't change.
I always got pic related, but I don't recall ever finishing one even as a kid because they're gross after the fifth bite or so. I don't even know how people can stand the 'fruit' ones, although I heard heating them up helps the flavor. And for almost 500 calories a pop I could be more satisfied just getting a real slice of pie with half of the calories.

The crusts have always been made of sugar, lard, sugar, wheat, and sugar. They've been terrible since at least 1972; when do you remember them being non-terrible?

uh yeah they have.Someone bought two of the apple ones for me after a brief conversation with them. I promptly gave one away and ate the other one a few days later with my morning coffee before I was fully awake to comprehend what I was eating.

The new ones have "welcome back" or something simiar on the packaging. I'm assuming (as you should) Op has a stock photo. You'll still never find a blackberry flavor of the fruit pies by hostess though

I remember eating those as a kid.

Used to be a bread store near where I live, he would always buy those.

They were fucking great, have not had them in about fifteen years though.

It's a running gag that Bobbeh loves fruit pies. Hank begged him to come to work one day and his main selling point to Bobby was listing off vending machine items, one of which was Fruit Pies.

He befriends a racoon and always shares his pies.

A few others. Peggy bribes him with them, Lady Bird sniffs them in an attempt to track him.

My dad would buy a crap load of these every time he went to the bread store (we went through a loaf of bread and other things a few times a week), And I'd have at least 2-3 of these things every time I got home from school, at least 1 while I was waiting for my pizza to warm up and one after for dessert. Loved the choc pudding flavor but they were all great
